Painless

I have finished the second benefit box, and have started on the third.

Meanwhile, in Idaho, time is running out. The wolf has seen its last day of protection under the Endangered Species Act, and officials have now proposed lowering the price of a license to $9.75 for Idaho residents.

Less than the price of dinner at a sit-down restaurant.

More information below the cut. )

We know you're an atavism. We can just go looking for your post with the Cthulu Kitty if we ever start having doubts.

I have to say, having just moved from Idaho and been "privileged" to sit in on some of the debate around this change of status, that Idaho absolutely does not have the best interest of wolves at heart. What they have worry for are the interests of the big sheep and cattle ranch operations, the ones who give an obscene amount of money in campaign donations.

But I am not surprised. This is, after all, the state that is phasing out librarians in public schools. Because "nobody needs librarians when they have the Internet."

I can't decide whether to laugh madly from the sheer stupidity, or claw my eyes out, weeping, for the same reason.

Wow.

Yeah. My former place of work discontinued their library certification program because there would be no jobs for the students once they were done. It seemed to have never occurred to anyone to, I dunno, protest the job elimination or anything.

*sigh*

Wolves won't go completely extinct, they'll still be left alone in other places. Which makes this no less a tragedy, and does set a dangerous precedent...

But Wolves were here long before mankind, and the way things are going, I rather think they'll still be here after humankind has gone the way of the dinosaurs.

Hopefully the drool factor will make up for anything logic finds lacking in the movie, but it IS beautifully photographed ( ... )

I do believe you're here for a reason, too. Part of what makes you perfect for the task you were given to do, whatever it is, is doubtless also that which makes you unhappy here.

If we weren't unhappy with how things are, what motivation would there be to change things? To create?

It's a cold scrap of comfort. I wish for you, for me, for everyone like us, to at least be effective in our tasks, if not eternally joyous.

(The movie, incidentally, was sublime.)

*sigh* I hear you.

I think that a lot of us here don't belong. Maybe naamah will one day lead us though that hidden door?

Don't mind me, I'm in a wierd place at the moment.

CRAP.

BOOK?!

Now I have to read it, so I can compare it to the movie.

(I really, really liked the movie, by the way. Very pretty, but also really well-written.)

Cool! Sounds very different, but knowing that going in I'm sure I can appreciate it for what it is.

I'll have to check it out!
