accents!

Sup babes. I was thinking about this in bed last night after my router went kaput (it was a profound moment) just before I was watching Matthew Goode nom it up with his accent on screen, and I thought it wouldn't hurt to put this out as a question to all of you since... well. Relevance.

So: What accent does your character/do your characters have ( Read more... )

ZOMG. I actually love this~.

Raphael's accent is sorta like This (the bits where he's not putting on a voice) in my head? And usually with perfect diction on top of that~.

Minthe's accent is basically just Karen Gillan's, really. Still with a bit of scottish even after all these years. ^^

My three new ones!

Apep: ...Is hard to describe because he doesn't actually have a accent due to travelling so much. You'd probably be vaguely able to place it to Not-American if you'd lived in New York but otherwise there's not really anything.
Penemue: Scottish, still stubbornly Scottish. And progressively more Scottish when he gets angry.
Gaheris: Michael Obiora's accent, pretty much. Except perhaps a little broader, if that makes sense?

Agravaine: Has no decent Youtube clips, because afaik, Resident Evil is his only movie with an American accent and it is not good. So imagine a rather generic New York accent. Gruff, low. Probably growly when he's angry.
Castor: Harry sounds like a little ponce. SO NO CLIP. His accent is English and a bit posh.
Famine: Something like this. This American accent of Ed's is really laaazy, which Famine is.
Hathor: Like Zoe Saldana's, but she someeeetimes her words can be accented. But mostly like Zoe's.
Hebe: Okay. Imagine Imogen Poots in Solitary Man, only without the sexy rawness/growly quality.
Hector: Think David Annable but a touch deeper. Because Justin sounds like he's 20 ldjhfdlfj.
Hypnos: FFnngng Garrel will never speak with a Danish accent, but there is Mathias Lauridsen (hi Gabriel), whose first name I stole (I'm not sorry). Mathias is Danish but speaks English basically fluently with a sort of... how should I say, his intonation is different? There's an accent, but it's a bit muted.
Kerberos: He does not sound like Shane ( ... )

As a person who was born and raised in Detroit.... I'd like to know what makes our accent different from the rest of the 'Mid-West' accents?

Well dslfjdh;lh every state varies a little bit, don't they? Accents can vary from city to city, as I've learned even in my own province. Like the intonation, how certain letters are pronounced. It's subtle, but a person with a good ear could probably distinguish accents.

Gabriel: Sorry, no clip since he doesn't sound at all like Mathias Lauridsen (I see you there, Angie). He was born and raised in Brooklyn so his accent is slight since he's used to toning it down for speaking with patients.

Ra: Pretty much sounds like like Leif but with a stronger, more authoritative voice but very smooth, no accent whatsoever to indicate where he's from.

Freyr: Sounds like a typical Kansas farmboy though he speaks more formally with clients at work.

Sokar: No British accent like Jude Law but he doesn't have much of an accent being from CA and all.

No clips, because I'm at work.

Anteros - higher-pitched, like Chris Colfer's, but with a Detroit flair kinda like Jack White.

Baldr - a rich tenor tone with a slight Danish inflection.

Charon - Gerard Way mingled with Mark Wahlburg in The Depahted. Very broad Massachusetts intonation.

Echo - light Valley Girl.

Eve - reserved Brooklynite. Not as grating.

Mordred - think Nicholas Hoult, or possibly Moss from The IT Crowd (but not nasally) with a tendency to go Cockney when he's angered.

Nimue - think Katrina Law's speaking voice with Chris O'Dowd's accent.

Paris - Manhattan born and bred.

Pasithea - Mila Kunis meets surfer girl. Very righteous and dude-heavy.

Arthur Pendragon sounds like the English public schoolboy he is, unless he's tired or a little bit drunk when there's the mildest Welsh influence in his accent, and his vowels get a little long. Normally, he's very precise.
Iseult the Fair has a horrid, mangled accent. It's Brooklyn meets Irish meets valley girl. Her speaking voice is quite pleasant, though, which is her saving grace.
Samael's accent is a bit chameleon-esque. Sometimes, it's as public schoolboy as Arthur's but it's usually pretty mid-Atlantic. If he's talking to someone, he tends to pick up flavours of their accent.

And to update with my other two:
Eros has a Dublin accent that basically infiltrates any language he speaks. He's fluent in both Portuguese and Italian but his pronunciation is atrocious until he's suitably immersed himself in the language.
Nanna has a Brummie accent. Not a very strong one as she's so soft-spoken but it's still unmistakeable.
