She sits in an overly-decorated high-back chair, waiting for a report from her field team. Of course, she doesn't really need the report to know they've failed, because a success would have rippled through the universe; the magic would come coursing back to her.
After so many annuals of planning, so many failures, victory is nearly in her grasp.
She should have gone herself, ensuring the return of what belongs to her. But, judging by how long it has taken to find her little gem, letting her minions lose the battle will ensure she wins the war. They are discovered; exposed.
They'll be so busy licking their wounds that they won't see her coming.
She smiles, thinking about how they must have planned, all those annuals ago, to keep her guessing. But, she's figured it out; she's caught up to them.
The timebomb has been discovered and she now knows just how to set it off.
