Tomorrow I go to Zurich for about a week. I'm attending my very first musicology conference. I'm not really sure what that means, but I'm excited to learn lots of things and hope that my laptop doesn't get stolen if I leave it in my hostel room while I go out. So, I keep forgetting to tell anyone my funny locker story, therefore I am posting about it. Last October I bought a lock to put on a locker near my seminar so that I could keep my laptop there if I wanted to wander through the city or go to a class or something. That worked out pretty well. Not much is new in Freiburgland, except that the rain has finally subsided to the point that there are only a few random thunderstorms per day. Yesterday I got stuck in one of said storms while I was waiting for the Strassenbahn. In lieu of the upcoming G-8 Summit, I have received an email of warning from big brother, a.k.a. the U.S. Embassy in Frankfurt. I appreciated their concern for Americans in Germany during this meeting of industrial world leaders, but I think I might be one of the farthest away Americans from the Baltic Sea city of Rostock. I finally hopped the border yesterday. I spent about five hours in a town called Colmar, just 60 km or so away from Freiburg. The trip was easy, pretty cheap, and I had great company.
