I love Peggy a lot and overall, I enjoyed the show, but I feel like it never quite managed to be as good as it could have been.
Sadly, I agree with you. It especially fell down on Peggy's romantic life, which felt like a series of big turns without the intervening work to make them resonant. A few weeks ago she was making out with Wilkes, but now they can't be because...why? I read it as because she was going back to NY, but that certainly didn't stop her with Sousa, which was presented as a music-swelling grand romance. Not that we saw any of that.
I love the idea of exploring Peggy's romantic life, post-Steve...but I don't really feel like they did that.
And Whitney deserved better. As did Ana. That said, one of the best moments of the episode was Peggy telling Ana she didn't know if Ana would want to see her. Maybe it was the acting, but that moment actually felt real and emotional and understandable.
I just wish the show as a whole knew how to capitalize on them.

Yes, exactly. I think the implication is that she's going to stay in LA with Sousa? But then that makes it awkward with Wilkes, so who knows?
But they really didn't do the work with her relationship with Sousa. There was some nice subtext occasionally, but nothing that made me feel like that kiss was earned.

But as you say, the show didn't really use the great stuff they
( ... )
howard is such a treasure, smarm and all. him and wilkes and samberly arguing over what to call the rift generator was so cute. and jarvis continues to be the best.
peggy/sousa was too easy, i totally agree. after most of a season of pushing peggy/wilkes, the ptb broke them up and pushed her and sousa together in the space of like half an hour. violet conveniently vanished, wilkes conveniently bowed out, it was too easy. very hollywood ending, indeed.
and whitney deserved better. i mean, yes, she was a homicidal bad guy, but making her insane just seemed mean and kind of a cliche. and she was a great villain.
Howard is hilarious and I think they use him in appropriate doses, so it doesn't get to be too much.

Yeah, agreed. I'm sad because it was probably the season finale, and as you said... not bad, just a bit meh.
Agreed on Whitney Frost too. That degree of madness came out of nowhere to me, especially since Wilkes (yay he's alive!) seems pretty undamaged by the zero matter. While she's obviously pretty evil and rabidly ambitious, comparing her to eccentric, rabidly ambitious Howard really shows how gendered the "ends up in a straighjacket being beautifully mad" thing is.
Now there are rumors we might get a third season! Though I don't know how since Atwell has signed onto a different show.
