So I got back from seeing Iron Man 3 a little bit ago, and outside the cut I can say I really liked it a lot. And it is about 1000x better than the awful mess that was IM2. I mean, I don't even own IM2 on DVD and have no intention of ever owning it, because it's a terrible movie, but I want to see IM3 a bunch more (I won't, because of money, but I' ( Read more... )

ahhh just saw this - the first movie I saw after getting married! We picked one we knew we would remember forever, lol. My husband was SO EXCITED that Pepper was a badass superhero who got to destroy the villain. Like, even more than I was. Pepper is his favorite comic-movie girlfriend, and all I've heard about since the preview with Pepper in the Iron Man suit is "omg, PEPPER POTTS IS IRON MAN!" So I am glad it lived up to his expectations. (And the ONLY reason I knew Pepper didn't die - having walked in completely unspoiled - was because there hadn't been that one preview scene of her in the flames yet. So I knew she was going to come back and wreck shit. Because Pepper Potts always comes through in the end to save Tony's butt, because she is the most epic fixer of all the shit ever.) (And yeah, she doesn't NEED superpowers... but otoh imagining Extremis!Pepper with IronMan!Tony, going around saving people, hunting things, etc, is fucking cool.)

"WARMACHINEROX" oh honey.Come on, Rhodey, we totally could have guessed that password ( ... )

YES. I had seen the bits with her in the suit and read spoilers to that effect months ago, but I'm SO GLAD of how they did it.

YES. The Mechanic and the Fixer. <333

I WOULD PAY A LOT OF MONEY FOR THAT MOVIE.

omg BRUCE. The credits took FOREVER but that tag was worth it. I like that Tony's thought process obviously went like this: "I am fucked up in the head, even more so than usual. I should see a doctor. Hey - I know a doctor! Bruce Banner, get over here!" ( ... )

I want to watch it again. More than Avengers, and I watched that a lot.

I still have no coherent thoughts on it, just excited seal claps on occasion.

I would definitely like to see it again, because I'd like to get some things clearer in my head, but yeah, it made me very happy.

Re: Killian's motivations: I thought that the plan was to kill the President and install the VP, who would be in his camp thanks to curing the VP's granddaughter (?), and then cause "terrorist" attacks that Killian would in turn supply weapons/Extremis-enhanced supersoldiers to combat.

I mean, I have no idea how well it would work out in the long run since it sounds like it would be a fucking logistical nightmare, but, y'know. Comic book villain! *jazzhands*

As an aside, it was hard to watch that Malibu house get destroyed. I know the exterior was mostly CG, but it was a gorgeous house.

Ugh, yes. I was so happy that they rescued Dummy, though.

I loved that his panic attacks seemed recognizable/realistic (as someone who has had them on occasion) and that he knew he wasn't okay even if he wasn't really doing much about trying to get better....I thought that that was kinda what the whole thing with Bruce was about? I mean, he's going about it in a... less-than-constructive manner, but he does seem to be making a genuine effort to ( ... )

*nod* That's what I gather after reading some reviews that laid it out more clearly.

Me, too, though it honestly never occurred to me that they wouldn't. I was much more worried about Pepper. *hands*

Sure, but that's all after the fact, and I have a feeling Bruce just said something like, "Wow, you got up to some crazy shit over Christmas, huh?" and Tony was like, "LET ME TELL YOU ALL ABOUT IT. STARTING IN 1999."

I just back from seeing it too. I think it was the best in the trilogy actually from the snappy dialog, realistic character issues and the whole Mandarin thing. Even the scenes with the cute kid managed not to devolve into touching kid moments.

Yeah, I like how they never really succumbed to the cute kid cliches. I mean, he was totally a Cute Movie Kid, but Tony still managed to be a dick to him even while they were kind of connecting.

I approve of this movie because of all the points you mentioned. Exactly ALL!

I went to see it yesterday and I was gladly surprised when the movie finished and the cinema staff DID NOT turn on the lights during the credits (first time ever in a Marvel movie, seriously). And yet, more than half the people left in the middle of darkness, CMON!

I've never had them turn the lights up, because they know there's a post-credits tag, but someone did announce, "Movie's over folks!" and I don't know if it was staff or some random d-bag moviegoer, but that's when even more people got up to leave.
