call me back when your boyfriend is gone

Man, there's nothing worse* than a misplaced baby (eta: as in a term of endearment, not an actual, real, live infant) in a sex scene to throw me right out. I mean, I get that it can be endearing or hot in the right circumstances and with the right characters (for values of "right" that equal "circumstances or characters where that works for me"), ( Read more... )

i won't read your fic if, i am okay with that!

Lover, baby, yeah...so many endearments and so many ways to send me into a fit of laughter.

I always think of the LOVAHS sketch on SNL. Using soul mate in a fic will get me quickly clicking out of the page but I haven't seen any enterprising writer try to use it during a sex scene. As he pressed two fingers inside, quickly scissoring, since that is all the prep needed, and pushed his thick hardness inside the warm willing heat, he groaned, "Oh my soul mate, I'm so happy I found you, now spread your legs wider.

Yeah, doesn't work so well. Shoulda used baby.

Pfft my eyes have already been ruined as in the last week I've read surprise!caramel in a place that shouldn't ever have a HOT item placed there and the author pointed out it was spooned into said place. I...try not to think too hard about it. Just like to share it with others.

Oh good, The Office. A show I no longer care about.

Yes! This means tonight I will... do something productive! Or maybe rewatch some tv I've already watched. WHO KNOWS? ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN!

I've been doing a S1 VM rewatch. It's been sooooo long. I forgot how awesome it was. I just finished Mars vs. Mars and I'm trying to convince myself to get work done instead of watching another ep....

I suppose it is not impossible to steal a vehicle without observing that there is indeed a Baby on Board, and then to start making out in the car and decide to retire to the back seat where...

That would indeed be a misplaced baby scenario, though not the one I was referring to above!

Indeed!

I can think of occasions/characters it would work with, but mostly it just makes me laugh.

There are very few characters I would buy saying the word "baby" during sex and not have it seem misplaced, awkward or just plain wrong.

I could, however, totally buy Eliot having copious amounts of het sex and using nothing but terms of endearment in place of his partner's names.

Dean, too. I think that's why I find "baby" jarring when it's not an established relationship - I would be like, "dude, do you even know the other person's name?"
