and all this darkness past

Sep 22, 2010 10:55

So I had a conference call this morning at nine to discuss complicated financial thingies I had to take notes on, so I was in bed by midnight last night, hoping to get at least a full seven hours of sleep so I could feel like a human being this morning. I fell asleep pretty quickly, which is unusual for me, so things were going well! According to ( Read more... )

Sorry for the insomnia, hopefully tonight will be a tad more restful.

As for Fringe - I'd show the pilot episode (since it sets up the mission) and then probably skip on over to the last seven episodes of season two. Too much of season one was hit or miss and too much of the big arc came to play in those last 5 or 6 episodes to be missed.

You don't think any of the stuff with Mr. Jones and the recruits/activating Olivia's "powers" is important? Or the s1 finale? I might add those eps in.

To be honest, I sort of did what deaver is suggesting. I watched the first 8 or so episodes of s1, did not feel the love with random monster of the week crap and the pseudo-psuedo-pseudo science, watched the premiere of s2 because I was curious about the WTC bit, and then after realizing Olivia would probably have amnesia about it until sweeps I got disillusioned again and didn't watch it again until the episode 'Peter' because I wanted to know what the deal with his background was. From there I got hooked on the rest of s2 and watched through the finale ( ... )

Yeah, see, I would totally skip the first half of season 1. I mean, I'd go with the pilot, just to establish who everyone is, and then jump to, like, Bound or Ability, and then the first season finale. And then the handful of really important s2 episodes. But it's good to know you don't really need the earlier eps, especially if, like the person I'm going to be attempting to pimp into the show, you care more about the relationships than the mytharc.

On that note, any particular episodes I should really go back and watch? Seems like the s1 finale would be on that list

I think Bound and Ability are important in terms of Olivia, and Bad Dreams, probably, if that's the one where we meet the cortexikid who can influence other people's feelings, and then the season finale. In season 2, certainly Jacksonville is a must, and then the run up to the s2 finale.

That should have been all Finn Puck and Artie.

Fixed that for you. :P

Huh. I fixed it at DW. I guess the edit took longer to take on LJ?

EVERYONE sings better than Finn. I just do not get why he's the star of the show. :/

Because he's a white guy some people (not me) find attractive?

Wait. Finn's attractive? Huh. Hmmm. Ah, nah. Rachel last night was an absolute cow. And the episode kinda dull for a season premiere.

I think Fringe is being fast-tracked (not Glee fast tho') as well. Would be nice.

Sorry about the insomnia. We must have shared stress last night because I too was (intermittently) awake at those hours when not having very disturbing dreams.

Wait. Finn's attractive?

That's what they'd like you to believe.

I hope you've slept better since. I actually have, which has helped.

I guess so -- but I never saw it. Looks like Wendigo food.

I'm glad you have. Nothing is worse that trying to function while sorely sleep-deprived.

Heh. I don't see it either, but I'm not a teenage girl anymore (despite certain recent behavior *cough*).

Nothing is worse that trying to function while sorely sleep-deprived.

So true. If only the universe started later on Monday mornings. Meh.

So if you were going to pimp somebody into Fringe and you could only show them 8-10 episodes out of the first two seasons, which ones would you pick?

I'd say that depends on what elements you think are most likely to hook them. The pilot, definitely, but is this a person more likely to be won by Olivia's kickassery or by the relationship dynamic between Peter and Walter? Is it someone fond of mytharcs, or someone who'd be more interested in Fringe's take on familiar sf tropes? Someone who'd enjoy the X-Files shoutouts or someone you hope will like the show despite any X-Files similarities? The friend who got me into the show had been trying for months, but she'd been emphasizing the elements she most liked. When I reminded her of how many of those elements were turn-offs for me (I cannot forget the damned X-Files too soon), she changed tack and started singing the praises of Olivia. That did the trick, though even then she had to tell me to have faith through the first few episodes, which were heavily framed as "John Scott's ( ... )

The person I'm thinking of probably needs the relationship stuff more than the mytharc stuff - I mean, she's an XF fan from wayback, but uh, you know how that goes. So the Peter and Walter stuff, plus the Peter and Olivia stuff, I think might be the draw. Though also Olivia being awesome.

Yeah, for me, the Olivia stuff is what made me start watching - people were talking about how awesome and kickass she was, and how she wasn't wooden like some people said, and that made me go, "Hey, it's more than just Pacey and Daniels and Denethor? Let me give it shot!"
