I had two goals for this weekend (1. finish my spn_summergen story and 2. catch up with Mad Men in time for the s2 premiere) and I achieved neither of them. Sigh.

However, my spn_summergen story is well on its way to being done now. I had a huge crisis about how to get what needs to happen to actually happen, but I flailed at luzdeestrellas and angelgazing and figured out how to make a virtue of ( Read more... )

I've been considering that as I work on this novel. (Which, if my characters keep talking like this, might go to a nice trilogy. God knows the time span is sufficient...three generations.) I tend to switch POV in some scenes because what is going on in the girl's head as she walks into the room and sees him is important; then what he is thinking as they talk and he decides to be honest about his first wife is important; then her response to the beginning of his seduction is important;....well, you get the picture. But I think you have liberties to play with POV in longer works that you don't have in short stories.

Yeah, I think when a story is novel-length, there may arise situations which need multiple points of view, but the type of stuff I write is rarely that long and I almost never feel it's necessary. If I start and I find myself continually trying to switch POV, then I rethink whose POV the story should be from, you know?
