we're finally on our own

Jan 25, 2008 10:55

We have a mixed bag of stuff this morning.

Chuck made me very happy last night. And how AWESOME is Captain Awesome? I mean, seriously? I have nothing substantive to say. I just really enjoyed both episodes a lot. Also, ( spoilers )

tv: gilmore girls, writing: my stories, tv: chuck, music

It's funny, because I caught part of an early Gilmore Girls episode yesterday and found myself thinking how likeable Dean was, just on the strength of my new affection for Jared Padalecki. It kind of makes me of want to rewatch the first three or four seasons just to see how my opinions might have changed, because man, I found Rory/Dean to be so deadly dull and annoying the first time around.

Still I can't imagine ever preferring reading/writing Rory/Dean over Luke/Lorelei. That makes no sense to me! :-)

My feelings for Dean and Rory, and for Dean/Rory, are very colored by what happened later. I still find myself angry when I think about her sleeping with him while he was married, how neither of them seemed to really care about how they were hurting other people by doing it. It really made me dislike both of them. A lot.

I mean, okay, I totally preferred Rory/Jess (they actually liked the same things! and talked about them!), but I didn't dislike Dean until he cheated on his wife. It just seemed like his role was always to be the sweet first boyfriend who got left behind, and I guess I don't really buy her coming back to him in some future world.

I can't imagine ever preferring reading/writing Rory/Dean over Luke/Lorelei. That makes no sense to me!

Me, neither! I mean, individually, Luke and Lorelai are so much more interesting, and together they are awesome. Rory and Dean alternately make me want to yawn or smack them silly.

Ah well, mileage obviously varies. *g*

Me too! I'm very glad that they left Rory's romantic status so open-ended in the finale, because it makes it that much easier for me to imagine that later when the campaign trail passes through Philly, she runs into Jess and they're finally able to reconnect and work through their issues, especially now that both of them (him in particular) have matured and grown up a lot. That's my happy ending. Well, that and Luke and Lorelei getting married and having babies that Luke is actually able raise himself. God, I hated the April plot. *sighs*

(And yes, the whole adultery thing really took the sweet innocence of first love right on out of Rory/Dean, and frankly, that was the only thing that pairing had going for it, IMO.)

Your happy ending sounds a lot like mine, really. Though I also like Rory/Paris, so that's also an acceptable turn of events.

I agree.

LOL my personal take on Gilmore fic is that I like Dean/anyone, is that wrong? I like Dean/Rory because it's happy making and I like Dean/Lorelai (a lot) 'cause it's hot. I would even be interested in Dean/Jess but you never see that.

Luke/Lorelai - I have no idea why that isn't more popular. Perhaps because as soon as Luke's child enters the picture that relationship jumped the shark for me, show wise. So it's hard to go back and imagine how I'd like it, you know? What do I do about the kid?!

Although for the record, when I ever think about Dean/Rory it is always hand in hand with Luke/Lorelai and ideally I'd like to write some kind of probablyterribleandschmoopy joint wedding fic *Facepalm*

They sent her off to New Mexico or wherever, so hopefully it's pretty easy to not mention her. That's what I did in the one post-series story I've written. (To be honest, I had sort of forgotten she existed. Or blocked her out.)

LOL that's what I should do. April's in NM I will say, and that will be that. Or, as I think musesfool suggests, go completely AU from a certain point on. Rory never drops out of college, etc! (Though the one good bit about that era of episode is that Jess gets a nice send off).

He does! I really liked that bit. now if people wanted Rory to get back with Jess, that I would understand. But I always did like him better.

Ah, Rory/Dean. I was more into Rory/Tristan, myself.

Which is ironic, as CMM now skeeves me out.

Huh. I have pretty much been squicked by CMM since I first saw him as Tristan, so. Um. I'd take even Rory/Dean over Rory/Tristan.
