You know, I have many diehard Snape fans on my flist and f-of-list, and you know I like all y'all lots and lots but *puts on own crazy hardcore OTP tinhat* ( spoilers for DH, don't click if you ship Snape/Lupin )
: puts on tin hat with pride. I'm still a little shocked that she didn't do anything in this book to make it categorically impossible for Remus and Sirius to have been together.
And my already-stock response for the Snapefans who think he's with Remus in the afterlife is to ask if that means they think he's truly dead - because he can't be not-dead, yet with Remus in the afterlife.
I'm going to jump in here and answer no, I don't think so. I'm pretty positive she's had even the Remus/Tonks planned all along, and I say that because I think it was her way of keeping Remus from traveling with HRHr in DH. Without his relationship with Tonks - marriage and baby - he had nothing to keep him back. Granted, I don't believe it was the only reason she wrote the ship into canon, but it served its purpose in that respect
( ... )
Not particularly, or if it was, it wasn't to show that Remus would never have been able to have a romantic relationship with a man, because he was constantly miserable and unhappy about Tonks. I am not saying he didn't have some degree of attraction/responsiveness to her, because I think he did - but I also don't think that JKR painted Tonks as the Great Love of Remus's Life Forever and For All Time. A mention of Tonks by him in the afterlife scene might've done, but she did not have such a thing happen, so...
It's funny -- Snupin is my OTP, but I don't see it as the books' OTP, if that makes sense. In the world as written, I see it much more likely that Remus's big love in the afterlife is Tonks, and I'd follow that up closely with Sirius and/or James. At the very least the Marauders are having a good time together, and no one's missing Snape.
However, I don't ship Snupin because I see it so strongly in the books, I ship it because I really love the pairing and it speaks to me more deeply than any other. Honestly I can't really imagine writing afterlife fic at all because it seems so hokey, and even if I did it any Snape/Lupin would have to come only after a lot of explanation as to why he wasn't with anyone else. It's a pairing that requires hard work, which is maybe another reason I like it.
Just hope this doesn't turn into Ship Wars, Part 2, because I think there's enough Remus to go around. ;-)
Oh, and I meant to say -- I don't think fans talking about afterlife!Snupin are doing anything but trying to figure out where to go from here. It really sucks when both halves of your ship get offed in one go.
Snupin is my OTP, but I don't see it as the books' OTP
That's how I feel, too. Though I think that JKR's Lupin OTP is Remus/Sirius -- which partly goes with the series' theme that "the enduringly important relationships of your life are all formed at school".
:: Sirius's death by drapery. You can't top that for ridiculous and pointless
Yeah you can. How about "death by I'm-not-gonna-tell-you-what neener neener neener." Poor Remus.
Personally, I think Remus was really and truly in love with Tonks, which does not preclude him having been really and truly in love with Sirius. I think their paradise is a place where polygamy is perfectly acceptable and makes everyone happy. :)
To the Sirius/Remus shippers (and all who, like me, sit at their fringes) I say only this - who was Remus with when Harry called him back with the Stone? Hmm? Because it sure as hell wasn't Tonks.
I agree who came was determined by who called. That said, I'd like to point out that Harry didn't seem to choose how they came back, by which I mean he didn't choose what age they came back as. Lily wasn't given an age, but James was the age (and wearing the same clothes) from when he and Lily were happy, married and had a beautiful little boy. Sirius, rather than being the old worn out skeletal man Harry had known, was a handsome young Sirius like he was at school. Well, that was probably his happiest time. But Remus also was young like Sirius, again not the age Harry knew him as - and also not the age of his presumably happy memories with Tonks either
( ... )
Remus/Sirius are so totally in love and together -- and that's just that. Whatver she did with Tonks is just....whatever. It's Remus/Sirius. Duh. (((HUGS)))
