So Heaven uses Lucifer's own body to stop him from rising? Pretty ironic. Hmmmm -- pondering on that.

He is the ultimate weapon... against himself. That's just a slap in the face.

I like this theory! It's VERY close to my own, I just didn't have Dean being possessed the whole time - but I did peg him as being the perfect vessel (someone who has never actually performed an exorcism, believed in God, prayed, been possessed during multiple opportunities, etc).

Lemme see if I understand:
If one generation dies... if Lucifer's body dies, where does he go? Straight into another body? Unbeknownst to anyone?
By breaking the seals while he's alive, is Lucifer supposed to wake up on Earth in Dean's body?
So how would Lilith be setting Lucifer free if she sent Dean to Hell in 3.16? Thinking that if she kills Dean, Lucifer will have to body jump again?

I think I just talked myself into a corner...

...well, I swear someone's grace is sitting in the Winchester's front yard. Or was. That tree's massive and either John and Mary moved or it just kind of shot up because in the picture Sam has of the two of them, the tree's not there.

Yep, that's pretty much what I'm thinking. He just goes straight into a new body (kinda like Anna did when she Fell). But no one really knows where Lucifer is. Casey (3.04) said he'd been banished, so she was probably thinking Hell. Maybe Lilith's thinking the same thing and just wanted to mess with the Winchesters, thinking that either Sam was the important one, or both of them together would just get in her way :)

Interesting, but I suspect you're putting a lot more thought into this than the writers are. I think it would be cool.

Oh, I know I'm over-thinking. I always over-think. It's my school's interim period right now, so I only have one class for three hours every day, which leaves me with a lot of free time to do absolutely nothing. If I wasn't writing meta, I'd be vegging out in front of the TV.

Very, very interesting, coming from someone who thinks Sam is going to be Lucifer's host (or something to that extent). *ponders*

Or maybe Dean was right in 4.02 and Lucifer really is just a story they tell at demon Sunday school. Wouldn't that suck?

I've been thinking up a storm about this since reading your last meta... The theory I'm working on is that Dean started as a normal human, but his time in Hell was the catalyst, the window of opportunity for Hell to use him as the vessel for Lucifer. Ruby's part in this? Help Sam develop his powers...so everyone stays focused on him, so worried about what he might do and become that no one notices Dean. In fact, isn't it an interesting coincidence that Dean was resurrected right near where and when Sam first started to be able to use his demon mojo successfully - suddenly boom, Dean is back. Maybe the angels think they brought Dean back to help stop Sam, but in fact, Dean's ressurection was part of Hell's plan all along? Was Azazel's plan truly to create the Antichrist, or merely to create demon-powered distractions from the real danger?

Sadly, I do suspect keefaq is correct in thinking we're putting more thought into this than Kripke and Co...which sucks, because I think these ideas would make for much more compelling TV than the Jesus! ( ... )

Ooh! I like that idea. but, yeah, I definitely think we have more time to ponder these things than the people who actually work on the show do :) I still trust Kripke to pull some kind of twist toward the end, though.
