Hurrah

Mum just emailed me to let me know that Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King swept the Academy Awards tonight--er, this morning, er... Well, whichever. It won all 11 of the awards it was nominated for, including "Best Picture". I wish I could have seen it, but Mum said she taped the entire show for me, so I'll be able to watch it next time ( Read more... )

I am always confused by the ways of muggles. I really have no idea how you manage to live in their world half of the time. I certainly couldn't. I spent some time in muggle London recently with Remus Lupin, and the experience was .. unsettling to say the least.

Well I'm not sure that London is the best place to judge Muggles on. Perhaps somewhere smaller would be better to allow one to adjust. A nice, small village in the country somewhere.

I suppose I've just lived with Muggle things so long that I can't entirely abandon them. Sometimes I miss coming home from work and flopping in front of the telly with a takeaway for dinner (er, I mean with food bought from a restauraunt but eaten at home, and...well, I'll explain television some other time). I'm quite glad we have the computers at Hogwarts now--I'd missed chatting with friends through instant messaging--so much faster than owl post.

But then I'm not about to give up cleaning spells either. :-)

Oooh, it'll be worth it!
Annie Lennox sang the 'Into the West' song from Return of the King!

Ooh! Love that song, should be brilliant to hear it live. And to hear the audience reaction to it. I also can't wait to hear one of the songs from that American Civil War film..."Cold Mountain", I think it's called (the film, not the song, I think). I haven't had a chance to see the film yet, but I've heard little snipptes of the song and it sounds wonderfully haunting.

Other than the glaring "modifications" to the original work, but I suppose that's to be expected.Well, either that or it would have been far too long. Besides, considering the questions I had from friends and family that hadn't read the books ("Who's he again?" "What's the deal with the ring, again?") it's probably a good thing they pared down the characters and the oodles of added material in the books. Not that I would have complained if the films were longer, of course. :-) Was rather surprised that they left out the Scouring of the Shire, but looking at the film as- ( ... )

Though I should add now that there are a few things I do *not* miss about the Muggle world:

"Top of the Pops"
"Are You Being Served"
Oprah Winfrey
Hello!
All the tabloids
Biros which explode in your handbag
the Eurovision song contest
Football yobbos
Maniac drivers
People talking on their mobile VERY LOUDLY in restaurunts, etc.

Amongst other things.

Oh, that Lord of the Rings film was bl...very good, wasn't it? I'm glad the Muggles have a way of acknowledging it. I have to admit, I was a little nervous when Fred and George dragged me to go see it over the summer, but it was worth it in the end.
