So, you may have heard it by now, but in Mississippi a high school senior by the name of Constance McMillen requested that she be allowed to wear a tuxedo to her school's prom and bring her girlfriend as her date. Two things the school, apparently, has policies against ( Read more... )

I find the double-standards on homosexuality to be immensely amusing (and rage inducing). On one hand, there's this and other such incidents in which homosexuality is discriminated against. On the other, there seem to be an awful lot of straight men who quite happily cheer on girl-on-girl action.

Well, the straight guys who dig girl-on-girl action is a bit of a complicated issue. Most of it stems from the simple fact that in this society we are sort of "programmed" to see women as objects, put here for the sexual gratification of men. Two women getting it on is a "two for one" deal in that respect, and after all they're only getting it on for some guy's benefit, right?

Then there's the hilarious fact that, as I sort of touched on in a previous rant, straight men are also socialized to not only not enjoy the sight of another man's naked body, but to be actively disgusted by it. I've actually been around guys who would watch porn, but fastforward through any of the actual sex lest they see a penis and turn gay. Watching two women have sex removes any risk of penis exposure.

Thankfully this has gone national and support is overwhelmingly on her side, happily this includes her parents (http://joemygod.blogspot.com/2010/03/constance-mcmillens-daddy-supports-her.html). There's a facebook group, and maybe update your entry with this (https://secure.aclu.org/site/Donation?ACTION=SHOW_DONATION_OPTIONS&CAMPAIGN_ID=1421&s_src=FNNE0500WBLG) it's a link where you can donate to the ACLU to help fight for this case and others like it.

The real question is this: Which school board member(s) is(are) closeted gay(s) that's going along with this out of either a sense of poisonous spite that THEY had their life destroyed by a small town in the South so nobody else gets to be happy, or simply out of fear that speaking up for civil rights would make everybody (correctly) think they were gay?
