Last day in G-150 (lecture hall where i've had class for the last 2.5 years). :D you have no idea how exciting this is!!

Done with most of the heavy lifting for the last VIPS of my MSU CVM career. My partner, Karen, and I had to give a presentation in front of the class. We chose the topic of canine dwarfism (hypopituitary dwarfism) and seeing as how we had a week with 2 exams + our first srugery, this didn't provide us with the best preparation. With the lab exams over and actual surgeries next week, we had to put together our surgical packs for sterilization. With classes out early today, we all went to junior surgery and had a big packing party. We have these plastic bins that we can put all the instruments and drapes and stuff in. This makes it easier than packing a pack freeform. ( Read more... )

We had our surgery lab practical exam today. This is something we all have to pass before we get into real surgeries next week. That's really soon! We had to demonstrate knowledge in certain areas pertaining to surgery. We had to perform a subcuticular pattern and tie off a bleeder with hand ties in front of one of the surgeons. For those that are unaware of the system for finishing up my education here in vet school, we have 1.5 years of clinical rotations. This means that starting in January (2009), I will no longer be sitting in the classroom learning, but will be down in the clinics learning by doing. That was quite a long week. And it was only week 1. We jumped into lectures straightaway. They're informative, but also not terribly exciting. Most likely this is due to the fact we're sitting in the same seat/class from 8-12 every morning.
