So, I've known for quite sometime that initially, Christian Kane was supposed to play Riley (or at the very least, auditioned for the part). I've now come to find out that Kristoffer Polaha, Ringer's Henry (and omg, how much do I love the wtfery of that show, and hope to jeebus it gets renewed).

OMG if either of these guys - especially Christian - had portrayed Riley I might have actually liked him!!! LOL

Oh, I know. I may have even loved the character had Christian played him. As a Spike fan, perhaps we dodged a bullet? :p

Maybe they purposely chose the most boring guy because they knew he was only a place holder...?

you know, that did cross my mind, actually, like... not necessarily for his *boringness*, but like - it makes sense that they chose someone deliberately who *wouldn't* have the kind of long-term chemistry with buffy that would have made them last. I think he was sort of supposed to be her Angel replacement/rebound, really.

I know nothing about Kristoffer Polaha so I can't comment on him but it's my opinion that CK exudes a bad boy vibe that would not have worked for the character of Riley.

I also think MB was perfect for the role.

I think that's part of my problem with Riley though--he's too bland for me. I think that Kane has an earnestness about him that would have worked.

That being said, I <3 Lindsey, so I can't complain :)

I'm so glad Christian played Lindsey instead, I think he did a much better job with that role. I'm probably one of the few who liked Riley, in my opinion, Marc Blucas was made for that part. Kristopher I can't see as much, but I do love me some Ringer and I completely agree about Ioan. It's just gotten so damn crazy, but I don't have much hope for renewal unfortunately.

If there agenda was to have a beige character, then yes, Blucas was perfect :p I don't hate Riley or anything--he's just boring to me. But yeah, I loved Lindsey (and I don't even think Kane is all that good looking, but he brings a lot to the table with his presence).

I have hope for a renewal...it simply cannot end in two eps :/

I've seen some people complain that it's too crazy, but that's what's so awesome about it. :-P

Christian Kane would have been too "dirty" for the role of Riley.

I haven't seen too much of Leverage, but from what I understand, he plays a good guy on there...right?

Riley truly was like a cardboard cut out. I think Kane's grit would have made him interesting. Well, at least for me anyway :p

I also agree with the others about Christian Kane. (I don't know anything about Kristoffer Polaha,) MB has the whole, wholesome do the right thing, I 'm wearing a white hat, good guy vibe that they were looking for with Riley. CK could not have pulled it off. I think part of the reason Riley was so hated was because Joss and the writers wanted him to have a "holier than thou" attitude, and MB pulls that off better than CK could have.

Blucas does have that. But he was just so effin' boring to me...wanted to turn everytime he came on screen. And I didn't hate him or anything. It was just a lot of "blah" to me, I don't know.

Doesn't Christian play a good guy on Leverage? Well, with flair obviously, if he does :p
