A tale of Two Riley's. Or three...

So, I've known for quite sometime that initially, Christian Kane was supposed to play Riley (or at the very least, auditioned for the part).  I've now come to find out that Kristoffer Polaha, Ringer's Henry (and omg, how much do I love the wtfery of that show, and hope to jeebus it gets renewed).

I would guess that in the case of Riley, it's very simple: Blucas is tall, and Kane is short. :/

Polaha isn't short I don't think (his imdb page is broken for some reason...). I'm just really starting to think they wanted someone um...kinda dull. Earnest, good and true and all that, but dull. Forest and Graham were more interesting than Riley. s4 is like a lost season for me in due part to Riley.

Also--I put on your last entry Buffy/Gunn. I'd like to change that to Buffy/Forest :p Plus they had like "I hate you" vibes that could totally be evaluated at UST, IMO.

Huh. I'd never heard that. Christian as Riley, I can see it. OTOH, that means wouldn't have gotten his Lindsey, so....

Yeah, I agree. I'm glad things turned out the way they did because I <3 Lindsey, but I think s4 would have been better if the love interest was just someone that was else :p Either another character (i.e. Forest) or played by another actor. But I think I'm mostly the cheese on this post. Well, you kinda see it as does DoS up above, so there is that :p

I'm pretty sure Riley was intended to be bland, which Marc Blucas does well. :-P I don't see Christian Kane in the role of Riley at all, but I definitely could see Polaha. He's got a wholesome look to him. I don't find him boring, but he could probably be good at it if given the chance.

That's what I was thinking, yeah :p I think they wanted him boring on purpose. There's just no other logical explanation...

Hell, he even looked boring. For serious.

I don't have a problem with Marc. And Christian was meant to be Lindsey.

Riley's a wholesome Iowa boy in the Army. That ain't the natural vibe of Christian or KP. Remember, just because you didn't like Riley, doesn't mean other fans were bothered as well. Plenty thought the character served its purpose and plenty also liked him.

It's my opinion...I never made a broad comment about what the rest of fandom feels about Riley.

To me, strictly wholesome= snooze fest. So yeah, I suppose he did serve that purpose.
