An oddly misanthropic horror film. The protagonists are clownish, except for the kids; the human antagonists are unanimously vile with no redeeming features; even random strangers are unsympathetic. At least the beast was being bestial because it was its nature... although there's one point where you think even it may have been pointlessly cruel

Um, if you hated the tonal shifts in The Host, you better stay away from Korean cinema in general.

Hmm... "hate" is too strong a word. In fact I don't think the tonal shifts were as bad as the fact that no-one would even try to help - or even hear out - the protagonists.

It didn't work for me -- tonal shifts or just because everyone annoyed me or somesuch.

I've seen it and was mystified. It felt like there was a whole comedy dimension to the movie I didn't get.
