Well, decided to post up since things are slow. Back in last May I purchased a pretty rare beast, a 1995 BMW 540i with 6-speed manual transmission. Lots has transpired, and here's how the car is kinda sitting now:
Unfortunately I don't have any facilities to work on the beast at home; I don't have access to a garage or driveway so it's been mainly taking it into a trusted shop to get all this fixed. Not cheap by any means, eigh. :/
As far as the Pitman arms are concerned, I've heard them called either that or dogbones. They seem to be an attachment point between the chassis and rear subframe and can produce strange suspension issues if the bushings inside them go bad.

A Pitman arm is part of the steering linkage. Are you referring to something like a trailing arm here?
