I am succeeding at reading LJ again, but not so much at commenting. I am succeeding at writing fanfic, but not so much my dissertation. (Would my advisor understand that the 4000+ words of rent boy AU is an interpretive response to theory? Doubtful.)

I'm teaching The Faerie Queene to one of my classes; the "twelve-year-old-boy reading" has become a running joke.

And yes, that class was how I met therabidchild!

Sadly I don't think this sort of thing works even when your fic is about your diss topic. Woe.

I did once write a course paper on my advisor's favorite movie. So some forms of fannish sucking up work. But the fanfic, not so much.

Eh, basically it was just his fault for losing the last HOH. But this means he'll probably be on the next all-stars, which is kind of better than winning.
