He’d made his peace with that part of him that had needed that macho makeover, he felt. While he was back being himself though, there was still something he had to do. After everything, he did feel he owed this to her… Something he never thought he’d have to do… He had to break up with a girl…
He wasn’t sure what she thought their relationship was, but then this was Brittany… He could never be too sure. He had to explain to her and, most of all, he wanted to make sure he didn’t end up hurting her. He had needed her, she was there and willing, and still…
He went to find her. He saw her, standing at her open locker, and walked up. “Hey, Brittany?” he started, just as she pulled a feather that had been stuck in a crack of the locker door. Kurt startled and she looked to him.
“Hi,” she smiled, putting the feather in her Spanish book. After a moment she realized… “You changed your clothes,” she looked him up and down.
“Yes,” he confirmed, then paused, which left Brittany standing there, unsure if he was done or… “Listen, we need to talk.”
“Okay,” she nodded. “About what?” He sighed. He’d never really done this before, with a boy or a girl…
“Well, you know, the, uh… the kissing, the hand holding…” She smirked, and he just wished he could be somewhere else. “Okay, well… we can’t do that… anymore,” he shook his head. There, he’d said it. Now he just needed to wait and…
“Okay,” she nodded. He blinked… That was it? He would have expected it to be more than that, but then maybe he should have known, with her…
“Right, well… I did want to say… thanks.”
“What for?” she smiled.
“Well I just… I was kind of confused, but you were there and… you helped. And I guess I helped you, with your… McKinley Score Card,” he pointed out, smirking. She nodded, grinning.
“Want to see it?” His eyes widened.
“You actually have a physical list?”
“I was joking,” she stated as though she thought that had been evident.
“Right, yeah,” he nodded, chuckling awkwardly. “Can I, uh… accompany you to Glee practice?” he indicated down the hall.
“Okay,” she closed her locker door and followed him. “Can I say something? It might sound weird.”
“It usually does,” he spoke, more to himself than her. Realizing this, he looked back to her. “Go for it.” She blinked, he sighed. “What did you want to say?”
“I like you better this way. I mean, sure, the other way we did get to make out and all that, but… this is better, how you are now.”
“Why?” he asked, curious.
“You look happier,” she told him. He smiled, touched… He really was.
“So can I ask you something weird, too?” She nodded. “You said how you’ve… made out with all those people?” Again, she confirmed quietly. Kurt looked around, then stopped her and leaned in to whisper. “How do I rank?” She laughed, then went to whisper in his ear. He blinked. “Thanks…”
