Glee | Standing By | Quinn & Mercedes (One Shot)
Started my daily ficlets to make the hiatus pass, then decided to keep going with a 2nd cycle, and then a 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th cycle. Now cycle 13!

Quinn & Mercedes
Quinn had to embrace this change that had come to her life, if only because it had helped her see things for what they were, and helped her come to Mercedes’ assistance. She really hated to think of her being put through Coach Sylvester’s paces. She didn’t deserve any of this. As she sat with her, she just watched her, made sure she ate the granola bar.
“Feeling any better?” she asked Mercedes as she ate the last of it.
“Yeah,” Mercedes nodded. She looked back to Quinn, who chuckled when Mercedes followed with, “Got another one?” The blonde handed her the second bar, which was promptly opened. “I can’t imagine still doing it this way now, I…” She looked back to Quinn.
“I know. I’m glad you’re okay though.”
“My mother’s going to flip out when she gets here,” Mercedes shook her head with a sigh. “It’s almost worse than this. I just don’t want to disappoint her.”
“She’ll be worried, but that’s okay, isn’t it? She’s your mother, she loves you…” Quinn reminded her. Mercedes nodded to herself as she listened, as though to say ‘yes, of course, you’re right.’
“It’s just the story of our lives, I guess… We let ourselves get led around by all this, but what for?” Mercedes sighed as she crumpled up the second of the wrappers.
“I wish I knew, believe me,” Quinn agreed. Mercedes looked at her.
“Coach Sylvester has this whole number we’re supposed to do for when that reporter comes, but I… I don’t think it’s right.”
“What do you mean?” Quinn asked.
“Well I just think, if we’re all going to be in there, and everyone’s going to be listening… maybe we need to give them something worth hearing,” she looked back to Quinn, who was smiling. A moment later, she looked up, nodding to Mercedes.
“Here she comes,” she stood to move out of the way as Vivian Jones breezed into the nurse’s office, releasing a breath as she saw her daughter sitting there, relatively alert.
“Why did you go and scare me like that, I nearly crashed my car,” she just spoke on as she came to sit where Quinn had been, leaning to embrace her daughter. “I don’t want repeats of this, are we clear?”
“Yes, Mom,” Mercedes breathed out, taking comfort in her mother’s arms. As they pulled apart, Mercedes looked back into her face, saw the worry still there. “I’m sorry.”
“No, now, let’s not get into that right now, okay? For the time being, all I care about is that you’re fine. You are, yes?”
“Yes,” Mercedes confirmed. “The nurse took care of me… and so did Quinn,” she looked over to her, getting a smile. Vivian Jones followed the look, discovering the girl standing in the corner. She got up, approaching her.
“Nice to meet you, Quinn. Vivian Jones,” she introduced herself as they shook hands.
“Hi,” Quinn just smiled. “Nice to meet you, too.”
“Well, come now, sit,” she led her back to sit with them. “How are you doing?” she asked, having noticed the belly, connecting this with mentions of a pregnant girl in the Glee Club.
“I’m doing good, thanks,” she nodded.
“Good,” Vivian nodded. She looked between the two girls. “I’m just glad you were here to look after her,” she turned back to Quinn, filled with gratitude. “You are… more than welcome to join us for dinner tonight,” she patted the girl’s hand. Surprised, touched, Quinn briefly looked to Mercedes, who gave a quick nod.
“I… If it’s not imposing…” Vivian gave a shake of the head as though to say ‘don’t even mention it.’ “Well… okay then, thank you,” she agreed. It would be only the first time she joined the Jones family dinners.
