[Voice] Winterfest Musings

Dec 16, 2010 13:51

[Only a voice post, but to anyone lurking in Alexandria castle, they'll find the army's general stealing a private moment to herself at the top of the West Tower. With the coming holiday season, her thoughts return to a perennial concern of hers.]

Winterfest begins in two days. I wonder, is it possible to truly attain forgiveness?

...Sometimes I wonder. It has to be possible, I have to believe it... Otherwise, what am I doing here?

I wonder if I deserve to seek it.

[She falls silent for a moment. This falls painfully close to home.]

You're trying to live a better life now than you did before. ...As am I.

[Shadow remembers the voice of the General, after all, he makes a note to remember such things. Normally he wouldn't bother with such things, however, the subject is one he wonders about everyday. Finding a spare moment, he wonders if maybe he might be able to help the General, maybe even himself.]

May I inquire as to what it is that needs forgiving?

[A pause, some more information would be nice, however he doesn't really want to pry.]

...Was it an order?

Yes it was, by a queen who until that point in her life had been kind and fair.

[Here, have a distracted newbie.]

I'm not sure I understand. What does Winterfest have to do with forgiveness?

Winterfest is a time for good will and forgiveness, a time of kindness and understanding.

I see. Thank you for the explanation.

Hm. I would like to think that attaining forgiveness is possible, provided that you're sincere.

Is there a line one can cross where forgiveness is neither possible or merited?

I've wondered that myself....

Have you reached any conclusions?

That some things can never be undone, but you can still always try to be better than you were.

Sound words. Is it enough to try?

I destroyed two nations, exterminated their peoples. That is why I believe I am undeserving.
