I thought I was damaged forever with my dental work as a child.
For the record, I got my first braces in 2nd grade as well. :) I had terrible bucked teeth as well, and I had some perm teeth come in the wrong place and rotated. I had to have 4 baby teeth pulled and then we had to put the braces on to move and rotate those teeth. Since they were doing that, they went ahead and fixed my top teeth.
After that was done, I had a tiny little butterfly type thing cemented to the back of my front teeth so that the braces could be removed, and then I had a thick wire on the back of my bottom teeth with two little prongs holding my four front teeth together. I think I had that for at least a couple of years while waiting for all of my perm teeth to come in. Sometimes I miss having something back there that my tongue could play with.
I'm impressed with your change of view about the frankel when it was found later.
This was just really well written, and a great story. My braces went on when I was 10, with my night brace starting when I was 9. I was kept in braces hell for five years, and when I got older, my bottom teeth shifted again. Incredible.
You really brought back memories for a lot of people!
No! Another 5 years of braces? ke I mentioned abouve, one of my friends had hers for 4 and we thought that was insane!
I am so lucky my teeth stayed where they belonged. One of my canines is a little crooked, but besides that, I am surprised the braces I had for mere months as a second grader were enough to fix me for so long. Maybe God took pity on my poor mouth!
When I was a kid, they were going to give me one of those things. I went through the molding and everything. I can't remember why or how, but I ended up without dental appliances.
Of course, I had to go through some nasty mouth surgeries, but I guess that's another story. Still, from the harrowing account you've spelled out here, I'm glad.

I was always fiddling with stuff in my mouth. I still kind of have an oral fixation today. I wonder if the frankel et al inspired a little of it!
I still think the frankel was a rotten little bastard, but I also know it wasn't really the frankel's "fault" that time was so rough.
