February - Battle

When I was in seventh grade, I had to have my appendix taken out. Most people can go through their entire lives with the dumb organ still lodged inside their body, but not me. The thing hurt like a bitch and they said just a few more hours and the thing might have burst. Who knows what would have happened then, right? They say a person can die ( Read more... )

Ryan had gone outside to wait for Seth who I knew was going to be in an absolute state of panic. As for me? I don't really panic ever. I just watch and wait, and that was what I was doing. Sitting by Molly's bedside once the doctor told me that she could have visitors. Watching and waiting. I hated hospitals, nothing good ever happened in them ( ... )

"I feel like I was just shredded by some demon claws," I said moodily. It wasn't directed at her, but I didn't want to be in this bed. I made a face when she said not to move much. Not that I could really argue with her. What was I gonna do? Smack her out of the way as I ran down the hall in my hospital gown? Yeah, didn't think so.

She mentioned that Seth was on his way and I looked at her seriously. Did he know? Did he think I was dead? "Oh. Good." I had so many thoughts buzzing in my head when it came to Seth. He'd mostly gotten over the me dying thing, but what about when he actually saw me like this? Would he freak out again?

"Are.. you okay?" I asked, looking her over for injuries. She looked beat up, but nothing really that needed any immediate attention.

I remembered flashes of what happened and things I saw before I passed out. Girls getting tossed around just like I was. Ones that I knew who were dying.

"Did we win?"

I couldn't help but smile a little bit at her before nodding. "Yeah," I said quietly. "We won." But winning came at a price, didn't it? It always did. I hadn't ever really gotten to know anyone at school, at least not past a surface level. But Molly, she was infectious and friendly. She was friends with everybody. I wasn't even sure how staggering the death toll was but I knew that it definitely added up ( ... )

We won. I had to smile a little bit at that, but then I remembered what winning cost all of us and I felt the smile fade. How many of our friends and fellow slayers died? How many were in dumb beds and hospital gowns like I was?

I looked up when she said the guy who killed the other slayers was dead. I noticed the way she said 'your' friends, but I didn't bother arguing with her right now about it. After I got out of here, we'd have to do something about making my friends her friends ( ... )
