Why I love Damian...

Dec 10, 2009 14:56

Batgril#5 is out. As much as I want to like hte new Batgirl, I can't. It reminds me so much of Ultimate Spiderman and I never liked Spiderman in any form. People seems to like it, and since it's the only title that has Babs as a co-star, I hope it sell well. Stephanie Brown is a character that leaves me with a 'meh' feeling, but add some Damian ( Read more... )

damian, barbara, dick, batgirl

I want to stab her too. Yay Damian! The only reason I've been reading the title is for Babs, because, Steph has, and always will, just make me mad.

I don't mind Steph. She's just there, you know?

*nods* I read Batgirl for the same reason. I really don't care who's Batgirl, but in my opinion, Miller isn't the best writer out there. I have a problem with the 'light' feeling I get from the title.

Okay, I don't want all my comics to be the angst fest that is Red Robin (although Red Robin is on of my favorite titles), but this Spidey feeling is hard to swallow.

It is kind of happy go lucky, which to me is good and bad. We need something bright out there in Gotham, but I think it should have more of a Birds of Prey feel, where they are intense and sad, and then Dinah would say something and everyone would be able to relax.

But, I guess we can look at it as, this is just the beginning and maybe it is only a matter of time before the angst returns, you know?

BOP had their own universe. It was the BOP verse and things were light and angsty and tense. I don't think that Batgirl will be the new BOP simple because BOP was unique at the time; Batgirl is just another Batman (lite) title.

But I have to say that I liked the last two issues better than the first so I'm giving the title the benefit of doubt.

*pouts* But I like Steph. Yes, she's a screw up, but she never really had the chance to be trained properly. She had five seconds of being Robin before Bruce fired her for giving a damn.

And we have to remember, at first, when Babs was Batgirl, she wasn't really trained either. Which is why Babs probably wants Steph as Batgirl. She wants to train her because she's probably reminded a bit of herself way back when.

...and I kinda hate Damian, and this will never end. Stupid entitled fucking brat needs to be brought down a notch or five. >:O

My problem with Steph is that, whenever I see her, she is doing something wrong and then lying her way out of it. I could be off base here. I could have not seen enough with her in it, and if that is true, point me to some comics that show her doing something well. It could also be my intense love of Tim, and my dislike of their relationship that put me off from her as well. Really, though, I'm willing to give her a chance if you can tell me where to look.

As for Damian, well, I used to hate him, but he's growing on me. I think the entitled brat thing is mostly an act to hide how scared and lost he is, or maybe I'm just holding out for Dick to have not been a complete idiot in deciding to work with him, and really, sometimes Damian just has the best lines.

And, I guess I'm done with my rant on the characters. :P

I haven't read as much Steph as I've liked to. I think the main reason I'm attached to her is well, even Robin, and the fact she has potential. Though, I can't defend her as well I can let's say, Jason. >>;; I can defend him forever since pretty much the only bit I haven't read of his post-Crisis storyline was B&R#6 (but that whole comic series sends me into fits of rage, so we do not speak of it ( ... )

Jay has all the reasons in the world to go loco. Bruce is not Jim Gordon which I love to death. He's a bad role model-Bruce, not Jim. Barbara did warn him about Jay, but did he heard her? Nah!

About Damian, I think he's angry and confused and he's just a little boy. A very creepy little boy with obsessions, but a little boy that plays the man.

The thing I am freaking out about here is the fact that they seem to playing the Steph/Nick line with their little flirting whilst she's in costume. But now they've got Babs/Nick potential and I swear to god if they make LOVE TRIANGLE DRAMA.

But I also think Steph needs to be cyt some slack here. She took the time to get a profile of the bad guy before actually attacking him (by figuring out his blood was gasoline). And then Dick and Damian jump in and take over without even asking if she had any intel. Then don't listen when she tries to tell them about the bad guy. And it takes Damian cutting him open for them to realize.

Plus I image that the freez-a-rangs aren't exactly precision, Steph may have no actually hit Damian, he just got forzen because he was standing on top of the big dude who he'd just cut up and was about to burst into flames.

And then he stalks her at school, insults her and she just tries to reach out to him. I just think people need to cut Steph a bit of slack.

I prefer Nick over that random guy at her school. That is just going to make more drama and no one needs that. Although maybe the age thing might be a bit awkward. But it would be cute! I like Nick.

I can understand that, I have characters that I don't care about. Like Beryl. I don't like her but I am not completely against her either.

But the only other option was letting Damian explode! As much as I would have preferred Damian to get exploded, Steph had to stop it.

He's been trained since he was like, 2. Steph has only had weird sporadic training and mixed signals from all her mentors and the people she trusts.

But I do agree that Steph needs to mature, and I think that Batgirl has the potential to do that. Its only a few issues in, and she's already acting (at least a little) more responsible than she has before. It's character development, and it would help the series develop.

I do prefer Nick over that random guy at her school. About the age thing, I guess DC is going on blind here? Nick must be older than Steph and about the same age as Babs-expect if Jimmy Gordon knows that his daughter likes 'em young! lol

I don't know. My dad would freak out a bit if I was going out with a younger guy, but his daughter was Batgirl and is now Oracle so I guess that her going out with younger guys is the least of Gordon's problems.

If Damian explodes I will lose any respect I have for DC :( Seriously, I love the little brat! If someone told me that I was going to love the brat I would had laugh so hard people on the other side of the world would hear me. How time change minds :)

Yeah! *nods* As Batgirl, Steph is more mature than her Spoiler days. I didn't like that at first they made Barbara look bad just to make Steph look better, but right now I think that they have a balance. At least the characters are not acting OOC, like Cass in #1.

And the art is better now so that's a plus!

Damian really is cool as hell. He's a lot like Jason Todd but somehow more likable.

I like Jason. He's not my favorite Robin and I like him better as an anti-hero, but Damian? I love him soooo much!

And you are right! He's like Jason, but more likable. The kid's grandfather is Ra's. I think that's enough to justify his actions. Wouldn't you be mad at the world if Ra's was your family? :P

Damian is justangry... And he treats Dick like an asshole, which is so great. I was never a fan of Jason's until the Red Hood Saga. Now he's just full blown bad ass!

Damian is one angry puppy, that's for sure. I like the Dick/Damian relationship. It's...fun to watch :)

Totally agree with the Red Hood comment. After the Red Hood Jason went from the dead Robin to uber badass status.

And now not only we have a Red Hood animation movie, but also a six issues mini series. What more to ask? :)
