Why I love Damian...

Dec 10, 2009 14:56

Batgril#5 is out. As much as I want to like hte new Batgirl, I can't. It reminds me so much of Ultimate Spiderman and I never liked Spiderman in any form. People seems to like it, and since it's the only title that has Babs as a co-star, I hope it sell well. Stephanie Brown is a character that leaves me with a 'meh' feeling, but add some Damian ( Read more... )

damian, barbara, dick, batgirl

Man, I hope they don't try a love triangle!

Babs has been to enough already, she doesn't need another one and Steph needs a good guy in her life. I hope Nick's going to be the guy for her. She needs something that the other guy (Tim) can't give her right now; stability.

About Steph, she never 'clicked' to me. Like Huntress for example. I like Zinda better than Huntress. She's just there for me, you know? Be there, not be there it's the same for me. That doesn't mean that I hate her character or that I don't understand why people like her, but for me she doesn't rock my boat :)

And as far as Damian, he was fighting the bad guy and Steph was in front. Yes, Batman and Robin just jumped into action, but when Steph threw the freez-a-rangs, if she took the time to think she could see that Damian was going to get hit by them, but she didn't. She just do it without thinking about the consequences.

I think Steph has to mature a bit more. Damian, he's ten! He doesn't know better, but Steph? After everything that happen? She should start thinking more and acting less.

I prefer Nick over that random guy at her school. That is just going to make more drama and no one needs that. Although maybe the age thing might be a bit awkward. But it would be cute! I like Nick.

I can understand that, I have characters that I don't care about. Like Beryl. I don't like her but I am not completely against her either.

But the only other option was letting Damian explode! As much as I would have preferred Damian to get exploded, Steph had to stop it.

He's been trained since he was like, 2. Steph has only had weird sporadic training and mixed signals from all her mentors and the people she trusts.

But I do agree that Steph needs to mature, and I think that Batgirl has the potential to do that. Its only a few issues in, and she's already acting (at least a little) more responsible than she has before. It's character development, and it would help the series develop.

I do prefer Nick over that random guy at her school. About the age thing, I guess DC is going on blind here? Nick must be older than Steph and about the same age as Babs-expect if Jimmy Gordon knows that his daughter likes 'em young! lol

I don't know. My dad would freak out a bit if I was going out with a younger guy, but his daughter was Batgirl and is now Oracle so I guess that her going out with younger guys is the least of Gordon's problems.

If Damian explodes I will lose any respect I have for DC :( Seriously, I love the little brat! If someone told me that I was going to love the brat I would had laugh so hard people on the other side of the world would hear me. How time change minds :)

Yeah! *nods* As Batgirl, Steph is more mature than her Spoiler days. I didn't like that at first they made Barbara look bad just to make Steph look better, but right now I think that they have a balance. At least the characters are not acting OOC, like Cass in #1.

And the art is better now so that's a plus!

But is Babs given a definite age? Steph is about 19, so if Nick was mid or late twentys it wouldn't be too awful.

And isn't Dick waaaayyyy younger than Babs anyway? So maybe Jim is used to it?

I do like Damian too, so long as Morrison is writing him! But I do think Steph should be given more slack in that situation.

Mmm, I found Babs quite OOC in the first few issues, but that seems to be resolved and I am hoping it will continue to improve.

YES! The art was so awful at the start. I wanted to make icons but the art was just bleeeeeh.

Babs age is a mystery. When she was first introduced to the fans, she was older than Dick and younger than Bruce so I would say she was in her early 20s.

After the Crisis, she was the same age as Dick. Maybe a year or two older. She was younger than Dinah (Batgirl: Year One) and younger than Huntress (Huntress: Year One). I write her as being the same age as Dick-except if a fic demands to write her older.

So I guess it's up to the writer :)

Morrison is writing an amazing Damian. He writes a terrible Jayson though so I'm not entirely happy with his run.

I have the same problem with Red Robin! The art is okay, but I can't find a good pose of Tim *is unhappy*

Curse you DC and your inability to tell us how old characters are!!!!

I think the reason I can't stand Morrison is because you can tell that he thinks Damian is the top shit and he's just so amazing and "OMG LOOK AT DAMIAN ISN'T HE GREAT I CREATED HIM YEAHHHH YEAHHHH *takes LSD*".. but when other people write him I image them going "lol what the fuck is up with this kid. let's just make him insane. Kay guise?"

I want to make some Tim/Tam icons but there are no nice pictures. Although I find it REALLY difficult to make icons with two characters because there's usually SO MUCH TEXT and it makes it hard.

I can't stand Morrison for a lot of things! His run on New X-Men comes in my mind without much thinking. He can do some great things with the characters, but when he fucks up, he really fucks up!

*nods* Same thing happen with Cass. If the writer doesn't understand the character...I don't know. I only write fanfics, but I never write a character I don't understand. Those guys are pros for crying out loud! They should know better!

Red Robin is like a book with all that text! I don't know which's worst; bad art or too much text!

I read Batman: RIP a few weeks ago and just - I can't even- what. SRSLY. That man must take so many drugs.

YES YES. I don't get their blatant disregard for characters! How hard is it to read a few back issues. I am sure they get them for free!

BOTH. But there is so much internal monologue in RR. Shut up and punch bad guys Tim!

I would too if I was getting paid to sit down and write comic books. Oh, wait...nah! I'm not getting paid so big difference :P

Even if they don't get it for free, how hard is to pick up the phone and ask the previous writer about a thing or two?

LOL! Yeah, that's true. I'll be happy if he takes the mask off for a panel or two. The damn thing must be glued to his body!

But if you were writing comics you wouldn't WANT to take drugs.

Or you know.. go to wikipedia and read for a bit. Or communicate with other writers. It especially shits me what people are doing with the Birds. ASFGHJK

Especially considering he is around people who know who he is. You don't have to hide your ID Tim. EVERYONE KNOWS.

(I have been using too much capslock, I think this means it's bedtime)

I suppose that's true. Who needs drugs when we can have comics? (Although I still believe that Stan Lee and the others were smoking from the wrong pipe when he came up with F4 and Spiderman.)

Exactly! Everyone knows how you are Timmy, now get out of the cowl so we can see your pretty face!

But wasn't that the seventies? Didn't everyone take drugs in the seventies?

YEAH TIMMY. Tam wants to see how pretty you are! Oh god I just want Tim/Tam so bad!
