I LOVED the movie and I love the book but for slightly different reasons. The book really REALLY screws with convention whereas the film does so in a less complicatedly layered way.

Buttercup is an idiot, in teh grand tradition of thoughtless, powerless weak female characters throughout history to Keep Us In Our Place. Fortunately, many of us didn't buy into that side of it.

I actually didn't see the film until I was about 18 which I think is a good thing because I didn't go at it from a kid's perspective.

Peter Cook is the standout for me because that fuddly English bishop is SUCH a spot on satire of those. And because he's Peter F'in cook.

There's an online store (probably more than one) selling various t-shirts with quotes and I WANT the Montoya one.

What I love most about PB is that it IS so eminently quotable in so many everyday situations and those that 'get it' are like a sekrit society. Like the masons but with witty quotes instead of handshakes.
