Family adventures with Star Wars

May 23, 2005 16:09

After reading the multitudes of posts about Revenge of the Sith (I’m probably one of the last 10 people on LJ who has not seen it, btw), it came to my attention that a horrible cultural tragedy has taken place. There are young people out there who have not seen the original trilogy and yet have seen the prequels. And liked them, apparently. ( Read more... )

My son is totally the same way. He likes "the flying car". That is about all. The rest is " a bad, bad movie", as he likes to say. I try to tell him, "no, its really not." And he proceeds to tell me about the "bad men/people/spiders/etc" on each one.

Woe.

But he loves him some flying Ford Anglia, let me tell you. He has a few toy ones that are his favorite thing. But strangely, he wanted to be Harry for Halloween adn he is all about the magic wand too.

Go figure.

Also, he got a bit bored with SW too when I put the original trilogy on the other day. But I made him watch it. As I told him, "You make me watch Garfield over and over...you're going to watch STar Wars."
:P

Kids like to fixate on bad things. There's really no moral ambiguity for them, is there? And they have to know who the bad guys are. My daughter was peppering us with questions.

Stormtrooper appears. "Is he the bad man?" Yes
Luke appears. "Is he the bad man?" No

You make me watch Garfield over and over...you're going to watch STar Wars."

Hahahahaha. Yes!! I'm going to try this. I'll just substitute the latest Disney princess movie for Garfield.

Oh *sniff* I want them to love Star Wars. I shall come over and brainwash them this summer. Maybe we could make an audio tape to play them while they are sleeping to change their minds. Or use the force. LOL.

Hee! If if makes you feel better my daughter was going on about Princess Leia on the way home from school today. See, in order to sell something to a 4-year old girl it has to have a princess. And maybe use the force;-)

That was so what I was like when my mom tried to make me watch Star Wars as a kid. Though, I was in high school at the time. She was constantly putting it on, and she even used the princess line to get me to watch. I still didn't watch it until after Episode II had come out... :)

Daughter: Not Harry Potter, I don’t like Harry Potter. Mommy!! *whines*

*giggles* The little kids I babysat for used to say the same thing to me when SS first came out on DVD, and I would be like "Let's watch this!", and I did that every day. :D

I have a feeling I have ruined Harry Potter for my kids. I can see them when they're older dimissing the books because that was something their parents read. It'll seem really uncool and square or something. Or they'll be Harry/Hermione shippers:D
