Family adventures with Star Wars

After reading the multitudes of posts about Revenge of the Sith (I’m probably one of the last 10 people on LJ who has not seen it, btw), it came to my attention that a horrible cultural tragedy has taken place. There are young people out there who have not seen the original trilogy and yet have seen the prequels. And liked them, apparently. ( Read more... )

AHHHHHHHH HAHAHAHA! Reason 1433 why it's fun being queer and childless!

What do you mean? You don't want to spend your Sunday watching Aladdin for the 15,432 time. What's wrong with you?!

My dear, I suggest you take a time out in that corner over there. *snerk*

I really want to take my daughter to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory this summer because Johnny Depp it's based on one of my favorite childhood books, but I'm worried she's going to be bored. No princesses. No cartoons. I have been telling her about the oompa loompas. Hopefully the vaguely disturbing singing midgets won't scare her off.

This is too cute.

But whatever you do, do NOT take your kids to see the latest SW. The ending is so TOTALLY NOT APPROPRIATE for children under 12. Seriously.

I wasn't going to, but that warning probably does need to be said publicly. The only movies I've ventured to take my kids to are animated.

yeah, there were NO kids at the theater when I saw Sith.

Your story reminds me of hearing about my sis-in-law screen Fellowship of the Ring for her toddlers, ooh, here's some Hobbits, uh, fast fwd, fast fwd a lot, and more hobbits! and some elves, and uhm, that's it! until you're much older ;) They then made Hobbit holes out of cardboard boxes during rainy Saterdays.

My husband is a big LotR fan and he was watching the Two Towers by himself on TV. My daughter had wandered in the room just when the Orcs were on screen attacking. She freaked out, literally. And then talked about them for weeks.

Yeah, some things like that don't transfer well to young kids. Making hobbit holes sounds like fun, though.

yes! the big cardboard box hobbit hole project was a big hit with the kids and a great version of playing house. And allowed my sis-in-law a bit of creative fun with decorations. eee! I can imagine how the orcs would be super scary

They'll grow into it...hehe.

It also amazes me how many people haven't seen the originals. I guess it's a generational thing. I saw them all in the theatre as they were released, but I'm old ;-)

BTW...I haven't seen RotS yet either. I likely will, but not until the hype calms down.

I'm old, too. And I'm kvetching about the kids these days. When I start complaining about the music they listen to nowadays, just shoot me;-)

I already do that on occasion *headdesk*

Actually, as far as Moms go my kids say I'm pretty cool. I'm open-minded, easy to talk to, and I try to remember being a kid.

*sighs*

When I went to see the first of the new ones, I talked to the bloke who was in front of me in the queue... he was in his mid-twenties, and after some minutes flirting with me... but when I mentioned that I saw the originals in the theatre and at. their. first. release he ended the conversation suspiciously quickly... ;-)))
