Billy & Teddy Conceptual Notes

Dec 28, 2009 16:41

Today I was re-reading the Young Avengers issues - and my love for that series grows every time I read it: I keep finding little details that I didn't notice in the previous readings, but that are able to give to the story and its characters new nuances that make everything deeper and more interesting ( Read more... )

I LOVE you for having bought me that book for Billy!Day Xmas! ♥
...*cough*

BILLY.
The thing I like the most about these notes it that they are brief but *insightful*. We get a sketch of Billy's personality in just five words: neurotic, Jewish, cerebral, ironic, charming. Which are all traits one can pick up from reading the comic but sometimes are too subtle to be seen at the first read. I love that Heindberg has written down that Billy "has no idea whatsoever how attractive he is", because it falls in line with what is revealed in YA Presents, and because that's actually what I like the most about him. You never get to see a cocky Wiccan although the nature of his powers could easily bring him to be an arrogant asshole.
I also find interesting the fact that here H. says Billy was adopted by the Kaplans - though the status of this in canon remains uncertain, it's nice knowing how he'dlike it to be played. Maked me hope even more for Wanda's return.
Billy's not as articulate about his own feelings - the true source of his powers. ( ... )

BILLY!DAY~ ♥ *giggle*
You can show me your love&devotion&etcetc by marrying me rite nau. U_U
XDDDDDDDDDD

BILLY: the use of those 5 adjectives to describe him, made me decide to wrote everything down. XD
I'm hoping so badly to see in an actual comics a direct reference to the love-is-the-source-of-his-powers issue.

TEDDY: Billy would have been gay even with a female!Teddy... *giggle*
"Boobs? I don't see any. *denial*"

Yup. They never got to clarify the true nature of Wanda's powers either - and when they did they kept retconning everything. chaos magic, indeed XD;
it'd be nice if they sticked to this version :/

I know that Heinberg originally proposed Teddy as a girl simply because he didn't think that Marvel would be okay with making him a guy and having the two in a homosexual relationship -- and thank bejeezus that they finally said it would be okay to go through with the gay. I mean -- okay, I would be extremely annoyed had it not, partly because that thing with "accepting gender and the true nature of love" has already been done with Karolina/Xavin -- and it was done VERBATIM there -- and partly because being gay seems so integral to Billy's character -- more so than Teddy. Teddy has always been able to shift into whatever the situation calls for, into whatever other people expect of him; but Billy has always been labeled and defined as gay (as it would seem from the origins issue of YA) and it's become a huge aspect of who he is. Taking that away would . . . leave his character bereft, I think ( ... )

I actually have this theory in my head -- and it's probably really stupid, but -- that Wanda accidentally made Billy her son. When Billy gives his story in the YA Special, there was just this one panel where she taps him on the nose and heals all of his wounds (that he got from jackass bullies who beat him because he was gay, hey hey!) and I love the idea that in that moment she accidentally made him her son. Of course, there are massive plot holes in this idea -- like, Tommy? Maybe he didn't exist until that moment. Or maybe he also had a chance meeting with her that we haven't heard about ( ... )

Oh, that would be in interesting development - I've never thought about it before.
With Wanda's powers at work we could easily forget about the timeline. House of M happened roughly around 5 years ago, in 2005 (which in the 616 universe could be something like 2 years?).
We know she somehow triggered Billy powers in that scene. Wanda's magic can work without her being aware of it (that's basically what triggered Disassembled) - and when she met Billy the events of Avengers: Disassembled were about to take place. I think that she could have made him his son when she reshaped reality after the end of House of M, creating Tommy in the process.
(She met Billy, her magic made an 'imprint' of him, and then recreated the twins when she lost the 'real' ones after HoM)
...Like I've said: magic. Everything is possible.

Also, I know nothing about the Grim Reaper except that he was FUGLY, so -- he wasn't straight? The ( ... )

Chimera is an awesome codename. But yes, I'm very glad that Teddy became the Teddy we know today- are there any notes of his revisions on Teddy's character?

I'm also glad Teddy is the one we know today... :)
I adore him. XD

About the notes... not that I know of, I'm sorry. I wrote down everything that there's in that book, but I'd be interested as well in reading more of them. :)

The F#$^, LINDSAY LOHAN???? hohaiyee December 30 2009, 02:41:46 UTC
Okay, NO, I like Lilo, but NO. I'm so glad that they stuck with the concept of Teddy as a dude. (Though I also like the idea that they'll be together in different universes regardless of what gender swap or swaps have taken place.)

...and hey, is Lilo and Sam back together again? Or right now at least. I know what they should totally do for Halloween...
