Jocasta asks that Oedipus tell her what is bothering him. He ends up telling her and in that he mentions the prophecies of the oracle. Jocasta soon tells him of a story proving that their prophecies are incorrect. The story had to do with Laius’ son killing him, but it turns out that he was killed at a place where three roads meet by some robbers. Oedipus asks many questions about Laius and soon fears that he was the man that killed him. This means that if the oracles were correct, Oedipus would have to have been Laius’ son. This matters because this also depends on the future of many. I predict that Oedipus will learn more from the shepherd man who witnessed the killing that Jocasta has sent for ( ... )

Creon comes and takes Oedipus inside rather than leaving him out to be some sort of spectacle for everyone to see. Oedipus wants Creon to take him to the mountains and leave him there. Creon decides to urge the gods of their will for Oedipus. Creon brings Oedipus’ daughters to see him before he leaves. Oedipus is now to leave Thebes as the chorus speaks of him. This means that the only good fortune Oedipus had was the envy of all, as said by the chorus. This matters because it ties up the big mystery of Oedipus the king. I predict that as soon as Oedipus is gone, the plague will leave Thebes, as the oracles have said.
