Thanks. I wish I had a view like that today, but no, it's a cold, windy and overcast day, and the sea, which is so close to where I live, seems a million miles away...
I know what you mean, and it's one of the things I love about this kind of Portuguese architecture.
For what it's worth, Madeira is a very crucifixy place, and the building is not actually a church; if I remember correctly, it's an old prison which has been converted into an art gallery. I'll be taking pictures of buildings with crescents on top in just a few months, though. :-)
Madeira is definitely worth visiting. It's a great place for long walks; its scenery is amazingly diverse for such a small island. I'll post more pics of it in a few weeks.
My next holiday will be to Turkey. Not just Istanbul this time, but the whole country. I'm looking forward to it immensely. The food along should be worth the trip...
I could do with one of those devices myself. I'd give anything for a view like that today, now that work and bad weather seem to conspire to keep me holed up in my flat...
Thank you! Personally, I think the composition would have been better if I had cropped the left-hand side of the photo just a tiny bit more, but I'm glad you like it as it is. :-)
As for the weather, sounds like Vancouver is experiencing the same kind of unpleasantness that is facing us here in The Hague. We had absolutely glorious spring weather at the beginning of the month, but the last week and a half have been dreary -- cold, grey, lots of rain, lots of gales. About the only good thing I can say for it is that it makes me sleep well. (I'm an insomniac, but for reasons which probably have something to do with the old "It's-cold-outside-but-I'm-nice-and-comfy-in-my-lovely-warm-bed" syndrome I tend to sleep very well when it's bad outside.)
Yes, our weather sounds similar. We had positively nice hot days at the beginning of the month and then it was like someone flipped a switch and it all went to hell in a hand cart ;)
It's hard to decide what to wear because it changes so drastically and it looks like it could go either way today although the forecast says differently. Blah. I agree about sleeping though, there is something about bad weather that helps with sleep and if it's too hot then I tend to toss and turn all night, or just give up altogether and not even bother.

I can relate to that exotic vacation. It's been cold here lately, just when things were warming up. Blah!
