Would be nice to be sitting on an island gazing afar for the whole day.

I know! Bring a pair of sunglasses, some suntan lotion and a good book, get a handsome waiter to bring you fresh juice and freshly-caught and freshly-cooked fish at certain intervals and you'd be all sorted...

Sadly, Portuguese waiters tend not to be too handsome, and Funchal weather is unpredictable at best. But still...

I can think of a movement from Pictures at an Exhibition that would go well with this photo. I'm not sure of the title, but I wonder if I am thinking of "The Old Castle" or something like that. Good photo, and good music to think about while looking at the photo.

Well, Pictures at an Exhibition does have a movement entitled "The Old Castle", which seems quite suited to the mood of the picture, so yes, that could well be it.

For what it's worth, I'm currently listening to Rimski-Korsakov's Sheherezade, which seems to go even better with the photo.

Thanks! :-)

an old prison turned into an art gallery, that's brilliant.
have you visited it?

Yes, I have visited the place, and regret to say it's unspectacular. If it is indeed a former prison (which I'm not sure of), it doesn't look like one any more, from the inside or the outside. The interior is largely forgettable and not at all reminiscent of a prison; the outside is much nicer, and beautifully situated on the edge of the Atlantic, overlooking the ocean and the distant Desertas.

Ah, but are you going to get one this year? I'm going on a reasonably exotic holiday in August; do you have any travelling plans yourself, or are you still recovering from your trip to Japan?

No concrete plans I'm afraid.
There is something looming that *might* mean a business trip to Paris is in order. I'm keeping my fingers crossed :D

I'll keep my fingers crossed, as well. I'd love to see your photographic take on Paris! :-)
