Classic Movies

Jan 15, 2013 13:10

For some time now I have been meaning to make a list of films that people consider to be a classic. By a classic I don't necessarily mean films that are from 1920. They're the films that you might say 'OMG YOU'VE NOT SEEN THAT?' to when discussing it with someone else. There are some films I haven't seen and some that I won't want to see, but I ( Read more... )

I've seen everything on your list and they are good choices. As for Fame, is it the original or the remake? Both were good, but I prefer the original. LOL The only thing I can think to add to what has already been suggested is Legend. I don't like Tom Cruise, but definitely worth the watch and with Tim Curry as Darkness you can't go wrong. ;)

Definitely the original! If any of these films have had remakes I need to watch the original unless the original is from 1920 and the remake is from 1970 and considered a classic too. Haha.

Thanks, I may add that to the list! I have a lot of options anyway, from the comments so far. :D

Hmm, that's quite a list but I've not heard of a large number of them. Most of them sound like they're quite old? Not sure that's the kind of classic I'm generally going for, bar a few. I've put them on my maybe list anyway.

I'm not too sure about the musicals, I like musicals, but I'm quite fussy with films that are considerably older than I am, lol.

Thanks a lot.

Giiiirrrlll, you sound like my students! Old doesn't mean boring. The musicals I've put on that list are the funniest, most amazing things you'll ever hear! Try Singin' in the rain, at least! It's the classic of all classics. And the best thing ever :)

Oh Singin' In The Rain is one I wouldn't pass up, lol. I don't mind old, but it depends on the film. :P

Oooh, I've been meaning to watch Billy Elliot for a while!

I'll definitely consider some of those films, definitely don't want to rewatch Eternal Sunshine, I'm one of the people who disliked it strongly.

Thank you :)

Wizard of Oz
The Breakfast Club
GI Jane
Pretty Woman
Labyrinth

and maybe My Man Godfrey. Its a comedy from the 1930s but it has held up SO incredibly well. Like its still ridiculously funny.

...and I think both Alien 2 and Terminator 2 should be on there. The only reason really to watch Alien 1 and Terminator 1 is so that you can watch their sequels, which are brilliant and changed the role of women in movies.

I've actually seen most of these! Except GI Jane and Mr Man Godfrey (then Alien, Terminator etcs.)

Alien is one I've discounted already so I'll definitely not be watching the sequel!

Thanks!

GI Jane is STELLAR! One of the best movies of all time. You'll feel so empowered after you watch it. You'll also kinda want to join the marines after it too, but try to ignore that impulse haha.

My Man Godfrey - siiigh, such a wonderful film. Do watch it.

Alien is one I've discounted already so I'll definitely not be watching the sequel!
oh, thats too bad. Why? Worried about the horror element? Thats understandable - there's definitely some scary stuff; and the alien is largely not seen on screen, so that adds to the suspense. But as someone who absolutely cannot do horror, I'm okay with Alien. If you're good with Buffy and XFiles, than Alien is kinda the same. Or watch it with someone who has seen it and they can tell you when to look away.

but dont discount Terminator if you're thinking about it for the same reasons. its legit not scary; its about on par with any action movie made now and the robots really havent aged well. Its kinda silly, the fx. lol.
