Part 1  Part 2  Part 3  Part 4  Part 5

“My soul mate?”

“Mm.” Nichkhun nodded his head. “I’ll discuss it later. First, let’s go eat.”

Nichkhun turned back around and opened the door. I frowned as he pushed my question to the side. I released his sleeve and followed him, closing the door behind me. Nichkhun decided to pick a sub restaurant for us. As we entered, Nichkhun went over to stand behind a group of people. I followed him and wondered if I should ask him what we were doing. It took a moment for us to be greeted by a smiling person, behind a glass.

“Welcome. What would you like to order?”

“Let’s see. I’ll like a Honey and Oats foot long for the Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki.”

“Cheese?”

“Yes, Pepper Jack. And I would like it toasted.”

The man pulled out a white sheet of paper and turned around to get out a long piece of bread. he placed the bread onto the white sheet of paper. He sliced the bread open and started pulling meat out of a container and placing it inside the bread. He then went into another container and pulled out cheese and placed it on top of the meat. Then he put it on a metal thing and turned around, putting it in a microwave.  After about ten seconds, he pulled the bread out and placed it down onto the counter.

The man looked towards me. “What would you like to order?”

“Eh?”

I heard Nichkhun chuckle. “He’s with me.”

The man made an ‘O’ with his mouth and looked towards Nichkhun.

“Vegetables?”

“Umm, hold on.”

Nichkhun turned to me. “Do you like spicy stuff?”

I loved spicy food. I nodded my head.

“Lettuce, tomatoes, banana peppers?”

I nodded my head again, even though I wasn’t sure about the banana peppers. I had no idea what they were.

Nichkhun smiled and turned back towards the man. “Shredded lettuce, tomatoes, banana peppers, jalapenos, mayonnaise,
mustard, and the sweet onion, please.”

The man quickly got the vegetables and add the condiments to the sandwich. He put the sandwich in a bag with a napkin and smiled at us. “Anything to drink? Want cookies or chips?”

Nichkhun thought a moment. “Give me a large fruit slushie, please.”

“Alright.”

The man went to this machine and got a large cup and pulled down a handle that pour out red liquid. I was quit amazed by that slushie machine. He filled it up and put a dome lid on top of it,including a blue straw, and placed it down next to the sandwich. He went over to the register and punch in a few buttons.

“It will be $10.15.”

Nichkhun pulled out his wallet from his back pocket and pulled out a card. “It’s debit.”

The man pressed another button and nodded towards Nichkhun. Nichkhun slide his card. After a few seconds, a receipt came.

“Here’s your receipt. Come back again.”

Nichkhun nodded towards the man and grab the sandwich. “Get the slushie.”

I grabbed the slushie and followed behind him as he headed out the door.

On the walk back towards the dorm, I couldn’t help but stare at Nichkhun. Not really from his beauty, but from the fact that he’s so cool with me. He didn’t freak out when I turned into a cat or when I told him about my family’s curse. I’m pretty sure with any normal person, they would be freaking out. What is Nichkhun?

On cue, Nichkhun turned and looked at me. I quickly looked down and stared at the red slush.

“So, are you curious about me yet?”

I looked at Nichkhun and shook my head. “No, why would I be?”

Nichkhun smiled and brushed his shoulder against me, pushing me to the side. “Keep lying to me and you might regret it.”

I puffed my cheeks out and stuck my tongue out.

Nichkhun laughed at me. “Oh my god, I’m going to have so much fun with you.”

“Huh?”

Nichkhun shooked his head. “I told you. You’re my soul mate. Blame it on my greats.”

“What does your greats have to do with this?”

Nichkhun slipped an arm over my shoulder and pulled me into to him. “Let’s just say one of them is the reason for your problem.”

It took me a moment to realized what he meant. I pushed him away and stared at him wide-eyed. “Your family cursed my family!”

+++

To say that I was mad was an understatement. I was boiling. Not for the fact that it was his family fault, well maybe a little, but for the fact that he hid it. I took a bite on my half of the sub and chew quickly as I stared over at Nichkhun across the table, who was chewing his food slowly.

He swallowed and reached over to grab the slushie. I saw this and quickly grab it, bringing it to me before his fingers could even touch it. He frowned and crossed his arms.

“You don’t have to be that mad.”

“Ore, rigly?”

“Don’t talk with your mouth full.”

I rolled my eyes at him and swallowed. “How much do you even know about all of this? Soul mate, really? What the hell?!”

I brought the straw to my mouth and started slurping it.

Nichkhun sighed and rubbed his chin. “Well, where to start....Okay. Well....one of my greats put the curse on your family. But apparently through the years they felt horrible about it and decided to add on another spell to the curse, since they couldn’t just take it away. It was a strong spell. The new spell added on to it was that one of our family members will be the one to break the cycle of the curse. So far we actually.... never came in contact with your side of the family until now. We haven’t became one of your “lovers” until now.”

“Now?”

Nichkhun leaned across the kitchen table and took the slurpie. “You really haven’t notice? Nothing in your head has been ringing bells, like a long or short list?”

I pouted not liking my slurpie being taking away and tried to think about what he was talking about. I quickly clapped my hands and pointed at him. “Oh! You mean all those random things that won’t leave my head.”

Nichkhun stared at me for a moment, slowly nodding his head. He began slurping on the slushie.

“Yah, that’s mine!”

Nichkhun looked at me and smiled. “Well, I bought it. So what is that list?”

I sat back and crossed my arms. “Um, it’s not too long actually, so can you bring me a piece of paper and pen?”

Nichkhun stood up and headed out of the kitchen and brought back a notebook and a pen. He opened it around half way to a blank sheet of paper and slid the notebook across the table. He pointed the the pen towards me. “Here.”

I reached out and grab the end of the pen quickly, since I had taken my mittens off to eat, and started writing down the list that’s been in my head for a while.

“Okay, first is a date? Why? Second is coming in first place for the dance competition, which I do understand. Third is saying, ‘I love you’. Fourth is sex? Fifth is spending time with my family.... Wait, huh? Sixth is completing first semester. Seventh is introducing into each others families? What exactly does that mean? Eight is indirect kissing? But it’s been crossed out. Ninth is living together? But it also has been crossed out. Tenth is having kids slash adoption..... Eleventh is cross-dressing? What is that? Twelfth is buying a birthday present? Is that difficult or something? Last is marriage?....”

I looked up at Nichkhun who had a smile on his face. “That’s all I want you to do and the curse is lifted.”

“Wait a minute. You’re the--to me--I thought--”

“See, my ancestors believed that if there was a generation where the same sex have to be partners then the curse would stop and it would be lifted, so I kept my options open, just in case it was me.”

“This makes me wondered what my dad had to do for my mom....”

Nichkhun leaned forward and clasped his hands placing them underneath his chin. “Like I said, we’re soul mates. Aren’t you glad you have me?”

I looked back down at the list. “When did we ever indirect kissed? I understand the living together part since we are rooming, but the indirect kissing?”

Nichkhun slid the slushie over towards me. “I got thirsty.”

I opened my mouth to say something, but quickly closed it. My face started heating up. I couldn’t believe he drank from the same straw. I laid my head down, sliding the notebook and my almost finished food forward. I let out a sigh.

“I can’t believe you’re the one.”

“Also, I’m not sure if you’re family had told you, but if you don’t comply to any of these wishes, then you start to slowly transforming into your animal.... Meaning you can’t just ignore my presence. Once you found me, you got me.”

I quickly sat up. “What the hell?!”

“Yea, I know. But, since you like me, you shouldn’t have any trouble with that.” Nichkhun smiled, winking at me.
I adverted my eyes from him and pulled my sub back to me so I could eat the rest of it. “No, I don’t.”

“Oh, really now?”

I swallowed the bite I had left and nodded my head slowly, loving the fact my stomach was getting full. Still, it didn’t help my mind from worrying. I start classes tomorrow and I had to deal with Nichkhun. He is the key to releasing my curse, but then I have to do everything on that list that he wants from me. Marriage? Really? I’m stuck with him forever.... Plus, I still don’t understand half the things on that list. What is sex? I guess I’ll google it later.

I let out a sigh. I was completed frustrated.

I heard a chair scoot back and my cat ears perked up from the noise. I looked up and saw Nichkhun standing next to me with his hands on his hips. “Well, that’s going to change. Wanna hear some violin to help soothe you from your worries?”

I looked at him puzzled, wondering how he knew. He crossed his arms, seeing me not moving. “If you don’t say anything, I’ll take it that you don’t want to hear my beautiful baby.”

I quickly shook my head. “No, I do!”

He smiled. “But you have to sleep with me.”

My tail swished side to side as I felt confused by his words. “You want me to get in bed with you?”

Nichkhun nodded his head. “Yep.”

“Nothing funny.”

Nichkhun just smiled and tugged me on the sleeve, pulling me out of the kitchen into the bedroom. He pulled me to my bed and pushed me down onto it. I plopped down on the bed stared at him as he bent down to retrieve his violin case from underneath the bed. He stood up, clasping onto the brief case and went onto my bed, placing his back against the wall. I stared at him and went all the way into my bed, scooting near him.

He eyed me before, opening his case and revealing his glorious instrument. I clenched my hands into fists to try to keep myself from reaching out and touching it. He softly pulled the violin out of its case and the bow and pushed the case down to the foot of the bed. He closed his eyes and tilted his head to the left, placing his chin on the chin rest of the violin. He released a puff of air and placed the bow on the violin strings.  I clenched my teeth and leaned towards him in anticipation when all of a sudden he opened his eyes and stared at me, making my cat ears and tail, stood erect.

“Um, you’re making me nervous.....”

I stared at him and noticed his ears, turning a shade of pink. I started to chuckle, swishing my tail from side to side. He had a shy side.

I quickly slid off the my bed, thinking of a way to ease his nervousness, and went over towards Nichkhun’s bed and pulled off a pillow. I went back over towards my bed and placed the pillow on his leg and laid my head down onto the pillow. I closed my eyes, ignoring my rapid heartbeat as my shyness started to take over again. “I’ll just go to sleep then.”

“Mm.”

I felt Nichkhun shift to get comfortable and after a few minutes of silence, a nice melody floated through the air. A soft smile formed on my lips as I listened to it. I was pretty sure I heard of it before, but I couldn’t pin-point what it was. Still, it was nice. I relaxed my body as I started to get comfortable and let out a yawned. I closed my eyes and slowly went to sleep. Today, was definitely unexpected. In one day, I almost lost my chance to be free from my parents and I also found the person who could release me from this curse, but he turned out to be a descendant of the ancestors that cursed us. Still, he’s not such a bad guy. Possessive, yes, but caring.

As the song neared its end, I heard a whispered that I wasn’t too sure that I actually heard.

“Forgive me, Jang Wooyoung.”
