Crochet is difficult, especially when it comes to manual dexterity and having to multitask by doing two different things with your hands at the same time. I think that the years I've had self-teaching myself to play the organ has helped immensely in that regard. (Still, I feel like the patterns and explanations in crocheting leave much to be desired, from the POV of someone with a learning disability.)
When I saw my younger sister in Wyoming over Thanksgiving, she was so interested in my crocheting and the baby blanket and scarves I had made (especially her gorgeous baby blanket - took more than 100 hours alone to make, and I know it to be so because half the time I worked on it was steadfast on the train to New York, which was a forty-hour ride one way) that she decided to learn how to crochet. So I helped walk her through the process because we have similar learning styles, and it's how I would've wanted someone to teach me.
