Summary: Sam POV. The Winchesters slowly find out that they've been brought to Seattle for a reason.

Sam wasn’t sure how long he lay there watching the dull flicker of the floor as it transformed into new shapes and colors every few seconds. One moment he was being pulled inside out, the next was a reprieve that allowed him to draw in a full breath.

The symbols revealed no pattern he could predict and they never stopped.

He closed his eyes when he heard Gordon laugh softly to himself across the room. If Sam guessed correctly the network of computers were all Logan’s. He wondered when exactly the cyber-hunter had been possessed by Gordon’s spirit. It must have been weeks ago. It was undoubtedly Gordon who had lured them into the city using Eyes Only passwords and instructions. Then the convenient stash of medication to help Alec when he had been somehow induced into breeding mode. Sam opened his eyes when Gordon laughed again.

“What’s so funny?” Sam asked.

“Oh, I got a whole lot to smile about today,” Gordon said. “But I just got a nice bid for your boy downstairs. I’m thinking after we’re all done here I just might sell him off piece by piece. Maybe little Maxy too.”

Rolling onto his back, Sam flexed his fists open and closed on the floor, buzzing warm with the massive display’s static.

“You know what else I was thinking?” Gordon asked. “I was thinking about renting him out to one of those freaky clubs they got going on the other side of town.”

Sam felt his jaw clench.

“I have to admit, Sammy,” Gordon turned in his chair. “I had no idea what those pheromones could do to a guy. And to some ordinary human, it can’t do a whole lot. But your boy is a psychic, just like you.”

“So?”

“So that means the right buyer could install him in some dump worse than this one and charge a nice big fee for customers to enjoy the ambience Alec makes as easy as breathing.”

“Gordon-”

“Imagine that show? A whole room of strangers all feeling what your boy feels. What ever they do to him they’ll all have the fun of feeling it right along with him. Pleasure, pain, and maybe even a little of both at the same time.”

“Gordon, when I get out of here I’m going to-“

“You’ll do what?” Gordon asked in an honest sincerity. “Right now all you’re gonna do is whatever I tell you to.”

Sam didn’t do it on purpose, but a surge of his rage lashed out in full force. He knew as soon as it was released that he’d made a huge mistake. The symbols and wards caught each strand of his energy, twisting it all up and trapping it within the spinning circles. Sam covered his head as it thundered back down on top of him, each deluge of power wracking through his body like bolts of electricity.

“Careful,” Gordon turned back to his computer. “Wouldn’t want to kill yourself by accident.”

Panting for breath, Sam willed his heart to stop pounding while the worst of it passed. Even with his eyes shut he could still see each ward as it formed and dissolved, an endless progression meant to constrain all his senses and render him harmless. By chance he collapsed in the direction of the doorway and spotted the blurry shadow of someone just outside the room. It was his brother. He was just standing there with his hands at his sides, as still and silent as a statue.

“Dean?”

Dean didn’t say anything but Gordon did.

“He’s not going to help you,” Gordon said. “He doesn’t belong to you anymore.”

Blinking in confusion, Sam turned his attention back on the hunter turned demon. “H-How did you do it?” he demanded. “Logan was protected, he kept himself warded better than a lock box.”

“You like my new skin?” Gordon was typing slowly, as if he was unsure of how to use the keyboard. “It was an easy find. I cut those protective tattoos right off. I burned a couple of them that were too big to strip.” Gordon patted his chest. “I needed this body to keep on working after I got inside.”

Gordon’s image flickered again, and for a brief moment Sam could see the real person behind the glamor. Logan’s body might have been in working order but he looked closer to a corpse than a live human being.

“And Dean?” Sam looked back at his brother. “What did you do to him?”

“Same thing I did to my new friend Max,” Gordon said. “I learned lots of handy things down in the pit, Sammy. I learned what the art of survival really means. I learned by studying the most heinous and despicable souls you could ever imagine. And one of the first tricks I learned was how to bind someone to my purpose. They make for some excellent servants. Soldiers. Slaves. Anything I want them to be.”

Sam stared at him in disbelief.

“What’s a matter, Sammy?” Standing up with a big stretch, he walked to the windows to study the gray approach of dawn. “You jealous?”

“Dean!” Sam called out. “Can you hear me!”

“Oh, he can hear you all right, but he’ll only listen to me,” Gordon motioned with his hand. “Come on in, Dean.”

Sam struggled to his hands and knees as his brother emerged from the dark hallway and stepped into the glaring light now rotating in lazy circles over the floor. “He-He’s not yours. Whatever the hell you did, you don’t own him… you don‘t control him.”

Tilting his head, Gordon considered Sam for a moment, allowing the light to reveal him more fully than it had before. There were deep wounds gouged all around his neck, a raw collar weeping with puss from a fight long ago that had ended the bloodiest way possible.

“Dean,” Gordon instructed. “Take out your knife.”

Sam went cold as Dean immediately complied, sliding a pocketknife from his back pocket and flipping it open.

“G-Gordon, wait,” Sam stammered. “Don’t…”

“I want you to kill yourself, Dean,” Gordon said. “Start with one nice deep vertical line down the inside of your forearm.”

Sam gasped as the circles beneath him started to spin faster, his thoughts caught up and warped in the vortex of color and sound. Dean had the tip of the knife pressed into the soft flesh of his wrist, carefully slicing sideways as a bead of blood rolled down into the palm of his hand.

“Dean, no! Stop!” Sam managed to get up on his knees. “Gordon, please- ah!!“ Forgetting all about the last time he‘d tried, Sam lashed out again in a desperate attempt to free himself. And just like it had before, the energy came crashing back, blinding him and sending a violent shudder sizzling through every nerve and muscle in his body. When his vision finally cleared he looked up to see Dean wiping the bloody knife clean across the thigh of his jeans. To Sam’s dazed relief he saw the slash on his brother’s arm hadn’t been completed.

“That’s nothing,” Gordon chuckled. “You should've seen what I had him doing last night.”

“You son of a bitch.”

“You wanna argue some more?” Gordon asked. “He can perform a few more tricks if you aren’t satisfied.”

“N-No,” Sam breathed. “I believe you! I believe you, okay?”

Gordon’s absent smile appeared sympathetic. “Come over here,” Gordon directed Dean. “You can keep your little brother company while I’m gone.”

Without a word Dean moved to the center of the room and then stopped. Sam gritted his teeth when Dean didn’t take a seat until Gordon qualified that he was permitted to do so. Looking Dean up and down he tried to see any other sign of injury or mark that Gordon might have used to turn him into… into whatever it was he was now forced to be. But there was nothing. The only thing Sam could see was the dull lost look in Dean’s eyes.

“Okay boys,” Gordon shouldered a bag and headed for the door. “It‘s going to be a long day so I better get started.”

“Where are you going?” Sam tried to keep the fear from his voice. “You leave Alec alone, Gordon. Or so help me God, I’ll-”

“Take it easy, Sammy,” Gordon grinned. “But if it puts your mind at ease, I have more important things to do today than play with your son. It turns out that Eyes Only knows about some other X5s living in the city and I’d sure love to get to know them better.”

Sam's stomach churned at the thought of more transgenics bound to Gordon.

“Dean, be a good boy and stay away from the computers,” Gordon said as he left. “I’ll be back before you know it.”

Sam groaned when the ceiling abruptly burst into a harsh glare of light. The room was morphing wards above and below him now, crushing him between their force like an invisible vice. He barely was aware of Gordon’s departure, the effort to breathe superseding everything else. Everything except the knowledge that his brother was still sitting quietly by his side. The liquid displays darkened the room into the heavy red glow of embers, the heat imagined or real plastering Sam’s hair to his face and neck.

“D-Dean?” Sam panted. “I’m-I’m sorry.”

As his vision began to tunnel to black he caught something unexpectedly appear on his brother‘s expressionless face.

One single tear.

All at once any thoughts he’d had about his brother’s soul being burned away to empty his body vanished in an instant. Buried below whatever magic Gordon had conjured from the pit, his brother still existed. His hope burned bright for the small moment Sam could sense Dean desperately thrashing beneath his own surface. But before Sam faded away, he had time to feel his hope to cool to fear.

Because a man could survive that deep for only so long before he drowned.
