it's like ... once i get there, i suspect it will be less impressive than it seems, but i want to go. because it's WALL DRUG. and you have to go.

mollies, i am not coming up this weekend and i am SO SAD. i just can't afford the gas. it would be like $100 round trip and i could FLY for that much if i'd planned ahead. y'all call me saturday night after dinner so i can talk to you? cee has my cell #.

Come with me to Boston and I'll buy Fenway tickets.

1. Amsterdam. Culture, history, art, science, architecture...

2. Japan. Like an alien planet here on earth.

3. Belize. So very beautiful.

4. Uluru. Mystery and light and it's somewhere I never got around to going and that's stupid.

5. [insert name of minor league stadium here]

Japan changed me. Both times. Chaznged the way I view the universe.

And hey, Tokyo's a totally safe city to be homeless for a night in. The pimps are actually quite friendly.

You've never been to Greece? That's terrible!

1. Every damn state in America. Well, the 36 I've yet to see, anyway.

2. The Burren. Cool geographical feature, and a tourist spot in my own country I've never seen. (There are way, way too many of those. I never leave my Dublin shell.)

3. Palestine. I'm still pissed off that I missed seeing it last time.

4. South Africa, because it just sounds like such a bizarre place.

5. And since I'm listening to so much Arrogant Worms right now, I'm going to say: Canada. ;)

going to europe is VERY EXPENSIVE if you live in the states. not like hopping over from ireland, yo. :)

Oh, I've never been to Greece myself. I meant it was terrible that you, with your heritage, had never been!

And come off that 'ooh, it's a different continent' thingummybob. I've been to America more times than I've been to Continental Europe, and I've lived in Ireland all my life.

(I exaggerated a little, but if you don't count the times I was really little, then it's true.)

Wall Drug? Don't make it a "place I need to go before I die." Make it a "if I'm there, I'll stop to pee and it will be busy and touristy and everything I touch will be sticky." Now, the Corn Palace, on the other hand....

Places I'd like to visit before I die:

1. Tokyo. Part of me wants to go and navigate by myself, getting lost and finding myself over and over again. That part of me is insane. The rest of me would like to travel with at least one other person who is willing to sit back and pay attention.

2. Australia. My dream of taking three months to go enjoy a beautiful English-speaking country at my leisure could have been England, but I've been there before, and Australia is exotic. Ha.

3. Cairo. A friend has been living and working there for the past year or so, and I am envious on a cellular level.

4. Greece. This is my "when I get uber-rich" option. I want to have a bronzed and muscular sailing crew following my every whim and bringing me to see gorgeous beaches and remnants of ancient history.

5. Redwood ( ... )

Additionally...

Places I'd like to visit again before I die:

1. Spain. I was there when I was 13, which doesn't count. I want to be able to fully enjoy the experience, late nights, rich foods, and grabby hands if needs be.

2. England. The last time I was there was in high school. I enjoyed it as a proto-adult, but I'd really like to spend more time in London and traveling.

3. San Francisco. I haven't been there since I was 14. I keep talking about visiting amojojo too, and dang it, I'm going to! Especially since she'll be going on another grand adventure soon.

4. New Mexico. I was there last year for a wedding and fell in love with the landscape. I want to have my own pocket geologist friend to come with me to explain the nerdy details.

5. Mexico City. I was there last in college, but I wasn't there long and I didn't get to explore. I look longingly at the cheap fares every Tuesday.

That sounds like an excellent graduation present.

Greece! Hooray! It was really a toss-up between Greece and Turkey for me, but then I realized that there really wasn't a need to choose. Our bronzed and muscular boatmen can take us wherever we want!

Where don't I want to go? San Francisco, for burritos and everything else. Seattle, with a road trip to the Olympic Peninsula, which sounds beautiful. Portland, because I hear good things about it. Vancouver, likewise. Sydney. Wait, can I make the first four into one giant road trip, so I can make room for more points abroad? Scandinavia. Somewhere Mediterranean.

(I can't believe I haven't been to Athens, Atlanta, or Asheville yet, but I've seen plenty of the east coast and the south.)

I'm insane with the jealous. I've never properly been to Asheville, AND you get to see the Decemberists to boot? :)
