Our dryer has outlasted our washer, so far. I hope your entry didn't kill it. Washers have a lot more complicated parts than a dryer and so more opportunities for breaking down. I agree with you -- never be an early adopter of technology. I'm a late adopter -- very late.
I don't keep receipts, but I do keep all the booklets and informational pamphlets that come with items. Which reminds me. I'm overdue going through that folder to take out things we don't have anymore.
I also keep receipts, especially on blenders. I don't have a washer or a dryer but I have saved many dollars by keeping my blender receipts. We had a Ninja my mother murdered and ended up with a brand new one because I obsessively keep my receipts organized by year and purchase type.
Weeding through old files is a trip through time, following a map of all financial decision, It is! I have warranties and receipts for things going back so far that buying something new is when I generally notice that I no longer have some previous thing (or two) in the warranty file.
My sister's dishwasher is so quiet that it's hard to tell when it's running, AND... it inspires no memory of it ever having been running. This can lead to adding dirty dishes into a clean load and rewashing stuff. :(
