[OOM: " The Scribes call it Mjolnir."]

Ellen staggers through the door in her full suit of power armor, a massive blue-grey weapon of unfamiliar make up on one shoulder. "Bar?" she says when she realizes where she is. "Um. Do you have, um. Anything I can use to refill an electron charge pack? I kinda- I kinda have to go out back. And practice. A ( Read more... )

The sound of weapon fire and lightning draws Hawke's curiosity, and soon enough, she's gone to investigate the localized lightning.

There, she finds a grey-haired woman wielding the lightning with a very odd looking weapon.

For now, she waits.

Fortunately, the target launching device doesn't have a particularly large magazine. After about the eighth or ninth flare of lightning, Ellen lowers the cannon and trudges forward to load more clay pigeons into the hopper.

Then she realizes she's being watched, and turns to see who it is.

She raises a hand in greeting as Ellen turns, intrigued.

"That was a very interesting spell," she says after a moment. Something she thinks Bethany may like. "Your staff is rather unique as well."

"My- what?" Ellen blinks, and then looks down. She had to put the Tesla cannon on the ground to do the reloading; it's just easier. "Oh, you mean this?"

She's wearing an awful lot of armor, for a mage.

"It's- it's a prototype, it...."

Demeter follows the lightning,

"Oh good, I was afraid my brother had found his way here."

"Huh?" Ellen looks up from switching out an electron charge pack. "I'm sorry, is your brother one of the Scribes?"

This woman doesn't look like anybody in the Brotherhood, but Ellen hasn't met that many lightning-slingers here, so she's sort of assuming that she's talking to someone who recognizes the gun.

"No, he's the god of Thunder, Zeus,"

Demeter tends to look ordinary when she can but at the moment her divine guise is slipping through, the controlled lightning worried her.

"Oh!" says Ellen. "Okay."

No, really.

"So... you'd be... I'm sorry, I seem to remember Zeus had three or four sisters and I don't really know all the names straight off. Um. Ma'am."

Shoot. How are you supposed to address the god of someone else's religion?

We're going to be honest. What counts as the world's most localized lightning storm depends on the company you keep.

Janet was expecting the source to be taller though.

And no doubt blonder, too, all things considered. It's just a 5'3" Korean-looking young woman in heavy armor, not a big ol' Elizabethan-speaking Norseman.

She lowers the weapon after a while and rubs at her nose. Ozone smells weird.

Some day Janet will get a straight answer out of Thor about why he talks like that, but that day has not yet come.

"That was so cool."

"Thank you," Ellen says. For a moment she almost salutes, and then remembers that she doesn't have to do that to people outside the Brotherhood. "It's my first day using it."

"You do find the most interesting weapons," Annabelle calls out, grinning.

Maybe Ellen will let her play with with her new toy try it out?

"I don't think it counts as finding if it's given to you by your superior officer," Ellen says. "hi, Annabelle."

"Really?" Annabelle asks, intrigued. "That sounds like a story in and of itself."

"Well-" Ellen thinks for a moment. "Did I tell you about the Tesla coil retrieval mission, for starters?"
