Peeta studied the sign, with a mock grimace.
It be more grimace than mock though.

"Beans?" Not that anyone in District 12 was all that picky.

"Favorite color," Peeta rebuked.
But he was only just not-laughing.

Before he shoved a white one with red dots in his mouth.

"So what did you get?" she asks.

"Mint something." He's mid-chewing, and has the grace to have a hand over his mouth while he's talking. Peeta has manners like that. "They have something like this back home. But it's light green."

Mint green. The kind you make by adding 2/3rd's white to the green iccing. Until you are almost literally making the green touched by ice itself.

"Peppermint, possibly.

"The plant is green, but a lot of the candy flavored like that is white and red.

"I'm not sure why."

"The plant is green for us, too."

And rare. They bought it more often in liquid for the cooking. But in a pinch, when money was tight or shipments were late and his father turned up with bundles of the herb acquired in places best not spoken about, you could brew it fresh.

"Take two." As one wasn't bad by far.

This one was a faint yellow/white-green. Like stalks in summer.

And Peeta was making a face. It was kind of bland....but also watery.

"That bad, huh?"

Oh, Peeta. You haven't tasted anything yet.

"I don't know what this is at all."

Beat. "But I don't want to eat it whatever it is."

Lily frowns, sympathetically.

"Maybe the next one will be better," she offers optimistically.

It's close enough to a lie though, too. In District 12 you didn't turn down food. Not watery weird food, and not burned food. Which was about as telling as Baker Boy who wasn't fond of sugar.

"So we're at red or blue now."

With orange waiting.

"Blue," she says, decidedly.

Though for no particular reason.

He popped it into his mouth. Chewing it for a few seconds.

Then swallowed. "Berry something. I think."

"Blueberry, maybe?"

Then again, maybe not.

Hard to tell with Bertie Bott's.

"Maybe."

They had some of those.

"Two left. Has everyone else made it out fine?"

"More or less," Lily says.

"At least, as far as I know, no one has run into vomit or dirt this evening.

"So what's next for you?"

Something red, apparently.

Peeta is busy looking horrified.
If far more hilarious than serious.

"Does that happened?"
