HAPPY HOUR
Eat five
Bertie Bott's Every-Flavour Beans
and your first drink
is free.

Lily sets a large bowl of what appear to be perfectly innocent jelly beans next to the sign.

"Any takers?"

Will's feeling rather cleaner and relaxed after spending a night in Milliways and grins when he spots the Specials,

"Think I was told 'bout those once from some wizard friends. Only five?"

His sword is upstairs for the moment but otherwise he's in the classic Lincoln green of a man of Sherwood.

"Only five," Lily confirms, cheerfully.

"Any five," she adds, pushing the bowl towards him slightly.

Will takes his time picking and ends up with a dark green one, a deep red one, a white one with brown speckles, a brown one and a purple one.

Then he contemplates them and eats the white one first and makes a face, "That was somethin' burnt,"

The next ones are all eaten in a rush and he only gags once more for the red one.

Lily grins.

"Well done," she says.

Two out of five. Not bad.

"What can I get you?"

The solemn-looking man in the trench coat seems to pay no attention to the sign.

For that matter, he seems to pay no attention to the bartender, either.

But he is intrigued by the bowl of colorful beans.

Castiel fishes one of the beans out of the bowl--yellowish tan with flecks of pink--and studies it with great interest.

"Generally, when I'm absolutely certain I know what flavor I'm going to get, that's when I'm the most wrong, with those," Lily tells him.

Castiel looks up from the bean. He seems slightly surprised to see someone actually standing behind the bar.

"There are many variations?" he asks.

There are certainly plenty of colors.

Castiel fishes out a bright blue bean. And a pink one. And a black one. And a yellowish-green one. He studies each one individually, as if they are jewels.

"Why must you guess?"

"Well, you don't have to guess," she says. "But they make all kinds of flavors, and most people try to avoid the ones like liver and ... snot.

"But that's part of the fun."

Peeta studied the sign, with a mock grimace.
It be more grimace than mock though.

"Beans?" Not that anyone in District 12 was all that picky.

"It's candy, but it's shaped like beans.

"In the Muggle world, they tend to stick to sweet flavors, but Bertie Bott's are wizarding candies, and they can be just about anything.

"I'm pretty sure the last one I ate was turnip.

"How are you, Peeta?"

"Turnip-candy," is not helping her lose that look.
Except he is at least looking at the jar now.

But he glanced up. "I'm good."
Today has been good. "You?"

"I'm very good, thank you."

She shrugs a little.

"I think it's meant to be fun, the mystery of what you could be getting.

"Even if occasionally it means you get turnip candy."

"OK, what's the catch?" Free drinks are never that easy.

"They're not lying about the 'every-flavour' thing," Lily says. "So a white one might be coconut, or it might be tripe. They're every flavor."

"Seriously? So it's really, really random?" He thinks about it. "Why would anyone make that?"

"Because they sell really, really well," Lily says, laughing.

"And, yeah. It's really, really random.

"The last one I ate was turnip."

There's a Guildmaster who looks very, very happy about tonight's special. And her son, who had a fever a while ago, looks much healthier and happy himself.

He sits in his mother's lap, grey eyes and dark, curly hair peeking over the top of the bar as little fingers reach for the bowl. Mia stops him before he can take any or upset the bowl.

"Oh, I love Every-Flavour Beans," Mia says with some excitement. "I would crave certain flavors of them when I was expecting him. And it was about the only way I could sneak some of my cravings by my husband."

Who still had to deal with her cravings for garlic-seasoned grog loaf sandwiches.

She picks through the bowl and chooses dark purple, dark brown, a lighter brown, pink, and orange.

"Can I do it twice and get a free drink for him as well? I don't think Cepheus can handle chewing well enough for me to let him have any."

"Mamaaaa," the baby whines at not being allowed the sweets.

Lily frowns.

That doesn't seem quite fair, somehow.

"I bet we could find him something else," she says, instead.

"What does he like?"

gorgonfondness April 29 2011, 02:23:39 UTC
"Chocolate. He likes that plenty and I'm fine with him having a little."

She smiles at Lily's consideration before popping the purple bean into her mouth.

"Just what I was hoping for," she comments. "Eggplant."

"Egg-pant?" Cepheus parrots back curiously. "Egg-pant?"

"You'll be able to have all the eggplant you want when you're bigger, sweetie. You're getting a little chocolate treat for now."

"Tee now?" the baby asks this time.

Mia just smiles, resisting the urge to excessively coo at Cepheus. Somehow, the inquisitive tone he puts on nearly everything he says is just the cutest possible thing.

"Eggplant? Really?"

Lily rummages around behind the bar and comes up with three foil-wrapped chocolate kisses.

"Will these work?" she asks.
