Lily sets a large bowl of what appear to be perfectly innocent jelly beans next to the sign.

"Any takers?"

Peeta studied the sign, with a mock grimace.
It be more grimace than mock though.

"Beans?" Not that anyone in District 12 was all that picky.

"It's candy, but it's shaped like beans.

"In the Muggle world, they tend to stick to sweet flavors, but Bertie Bott's are wizarding candies, and they can be just about anything.

"I'm pretty sure the last one I ate was turnip.

"How are you, Peeta?"

"Turnip-candy," is not helping her lose that look.
Except he is at least looking at the jar now.

But he glanced up. "I'm good."
Today has been good. "You?"

"I'm very good, thank you."

She shrugs a little.

"I think it's meant to be fun, the mystery of what you could be getting.

"Even if occasionally it means you get turnip candy."

"They are..." he admitted a little reluctantly. "Colorful."

Except this last word isn't so much reluctant.
It's lighter. He's been using more color lately.
May have moved from painting on the floor finally.

"Yes," Lily says.

"Well, every flavor, they'd have to be, wouldn't they?

"Do you want to try one?

"Or five?"

"Sure." Beat.

"As long as you promise I won't grow animal ears or burst into flames."

And if you only really knew Milliways ability for this, Peeta.

"No. No animal ears, no spontaneous combustion.

"Just improbable flavors.

"I promise.

"Solemnly."

(Though it may be worth noting that she's not doing a very good job of looking solemm at the moment.)

She looks totally unsolemn.

Peeta shook his head, but held out a hand.

Lily closes her eyes, moves her hands in a circle over the bowl three times, and then pulls out of the the Bertie Bott's beans and drops it into his hand.

Solemnly.

Totally solemnly.

Except for the laughing.

"I can't throw them at you if I intend to win my free glass of whatever it is."

"Well, you could," Lily says, "but it wouldn't actually work as a winning strategy ...

"But you'd hardly be the first person to throw one at me."

"I'm probably far better at winning games than them."

There's a ribald edge to the referencing, but it's meant lightly. This time. It's hardly the first time he's had to joke about it. But it is one of the rare times he does it of his own accord.

"Fair," Lily says.

"You're also apparently better at stalling, Peeta."

That bean is not going to eat itself.

... at least, not with Lily doing some really complex spellwork first.

He looked at the ones in his hand.

"That one is last." He pointed to an orange one.

"Stalling," Lily says, in a cheerfully singsong voice.
