A long, long, long time ago -- months and months and months -- Anna met The Man Who Likes Cake and Pie. And he gave her a
present -- a little vial of something that would make any paint she added it to the right kind of paint for painting flowers

"Bright & Grubbin?" she asks, conversationally.
That's where Mr. Spring gets all of his art supplies.

"They sell a sort that changes color like that. Mr. Spring doesn't care for it, though. He says it's very tricky to work with."
She's not sure how the girl--who, she remembers, had been rather perplexed by charms--might have found or placed an order with that particular shop on Diagon Alley, but it's not as though it would be completely impossible.

Anna holds up the palette of created colors.
"Who's Mr. Spring?"
She doesn't ask why his paint changes colors.
She has recognized The Girl Who Does Magic.

"Oh, nice," he says approvingly from a few paces behind, a half-eaten lollipop in hand. "Very nice. I like the shading there."
He gestures with the candy.

"Thank you!
"It's working really well," she adds.
Though from the multicolored patch of grass in front of her, that's probably obvious.
"How are you?"

...sometimes.
"Not too bad at all," he says, flopping onto an unaltered patch of grass to get a better look at her handiwork. "Even better now that I see this getting put to good use. What about you, you doing all right?"

"I'm in the sixth grade now, and we get to have our first dance for Halloween. I haven't decided what I'm going to wear yet, but Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, and I think the dance sounds like fun, so it should be really, really great, don't you think?"
And then, remembering her manners, she holds out an extra paintbrush, in case he wants to paint, too.

Even if she isn't looking at shadows, though, she'll probably notice when the woman in question pauses, regarding Anna's handiwork with some interest, and then carefully stretches out on her stomach nearby.
For a better view.

She might have noticed the shadow, had she not been working on getting just the right shade of orange mixed together.
Then again, she might not have.
Either way, having gotten just the right shade of orange mixed together, she definitely notices the woman stetched out nearby.
"Hello!"

"It's a sunset," River says seriously, either to the grass or to Anna. It's the grass she's looking at, anyway.
The sun is still several inches above the horizon, for the record.
Then she turns her head just enough to toss a grin at Anna, without lifting her chin from her folded arms. "Hi," she adds.

And then holds out a paintbrush to the other girl.
Clearly, she will want to do her own painting of blades of grass, too, right?

Anna looks up after finishing painting a blade of grass a sort of turquoise color, to admire her work, and catches sight of Elle, instead.
Her smile gets bigger.
"Elle! Hi!
"I got the postcards you left with Bar. Thank you. That was really nice of you.
"How are you?"

"Would you like to try?"
