She is being stared at from below. Not by someone who would make a dessert choice, but by a... penguin. The thing is probably bigger than the baby, and it keeps looking back and forth between Mia and Cepheus. He finds them very fascinating!
All the while, he sips down a beer can with a straw.
We don't think any dessert that Ed would eat counts as baby-friendly. But he's never one to short-change when it comes to suggesting food.
First he's gotta wonder why the presence of a baby startles him, though. It's strange how the ordinary things can seem so unordinary in a place like this. But that's Milliways for you.
"The population just keeps getting younger and younger," he comments. "That kid got a pass?"
Horrible wit that falls flat. Saves every grownup from feeling old.
If he met her once and forgot, he's going to be annoyed at himself. Ed's especially sensitive about memory lately ever since he realized he was over two decades old. 'Old' is now almost as bad as 'not tall'.
But he's not the one trying to place familiarity so he's not concerned with it yet. "A good chaperon," he says, and grins. "And a gourmet cook at that?"
Oh no, she's confident she's never met Ed before. That's why it's bugging her mind.
"Not quite, just know my way around a kitchen. My husband's the real gourmet in the family. The odd thing about that, though, is I was the one who taught him how to cook."
Cepheus blows a raspberry. Mia gives him a kiss before going back to her cooking.
"Want to be a taste tester, too? You can probably give more accurate feedback about it. And I even promise not to feed you his mushy carrots."
"I kinda hear people keep meeting you," Kaworu comments. He leans against the kitchen wall as he says this. He could do with elaborating on that statement a little more, but he doesn't seem to plan on it.
"It's just strange," Kaworu says. Yes, he is avoiding answering the question entirely. "It's like someone has a plan for you to meet the rest of my family and won't be deterred from it."
Why is Miharu near a kitchen voluntarily? Who knows... But the fact is, he is not just near one, he is in one.
Likely it's an attempt to get out of eating later by being able to truthfully claim he ate something now, no matter how big or small it is. He's generally okay with food these days but he doesn't like being forcefed. It's not just simply annoying, it makes him sick. Literally.
He expected food in the kitchen. He did not, however, expect Mia. It is time to cue one 'eep' from this teenage boy. He may or may not have been lectured... and with that, Miharu has no particular idea of what to do around this woman. Let alone his own emotional fallbacks upon any memory of the silly things he told her. Yes, silly. We will go with 'silly'. It's simply easier that way.
Alas that backing away slowly and running is not a good option. It would actually be quite effective.
It's Cepheus who ends up noticing Miharu first and he gets full-on baby stare. Mia thought this was a sign that Cepheus didn't like the carrots at first but follows the child's gaze until she spots Miharu.
"Oh, hello Miharu. Did you come here looking for some supper?"

"Oh, hello."
Mia tilts her head a little as she looks.
"I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone like you before."

He copies Mia's head tilt and does a penguin impression of a shrug.

She offers her hand to shake with his flipper. And then notices the beer can and how it fills up his flippers. She decides to drop her hand.
"Well, it's a pleasure to meet you. My name is Mia."
Cepheus makes a noise as he looks down at Pen-Pen.
"And his name is Cepheus."

"It's okay, he's with me."
And Ed looks familiar but she can't quite place why.

She wipes Cepheus's drooly mouth with a napkin.

"Well, I've got a pan of biscuits from the oven and a pot of stew on the stove. I'd be more than happy to fix a bowl for you."
