He leaves Dean sleeping in the motel room. Sam slips through the door into Milliways, then shuts it quietly behind him.

He gives the place a quick once-over, then starts across the room toward the corridor that leads to the Security officeSome time after that he's back. Sam gets a drink and takes a seat at a table

Funny thing about those dark corners, they still have a pretty good view of the front door.

She might not see Sam yet, though. It's been a while since she's been in, and you never know who's lurking in the corners.

"Yes. And do you realize that sometimes it is better not to know everything?"

"I think I'd rather know, than have someone deciding for me what's better or not."

"Most information isn't free, Sam. I should think you know that already."

And Coyote thinks she knows him well enough to say that he doesn't want to be deeply involved in the things she does.

He eyes her for a second or two.

"Is it a trickster thing? Everything comes with a price?"

[howling_laugh]

"It is a life thing." Life is decidedly not fair, and it exacts its price from everyone.

[gavemea_45]

"Uh-huh."

From the sound of his voice, he doesn't entirely believe this.

[howling_laugh]

"You're young," Coyote says. It's not quite patronizing, but it's close. She takes a pull of her beer.

Sam gives her a look.

"You did not just pull the age card."

[howling_laugh]

"Of course I did," she says. "Wouldn't you, if you were my age?"

What's the use of being old if you can't use it to smack down a young whippersnapper now and then? If you're not trying to sleep with said whippersnapper, anyway. Ahem.

"Dunno," he tosses back.

"How old are you?"

[howling_laugh]

"Do you really want to know?"

[gavemea_45]

He opens his mouth to answer, then shuts it and eyes her again for a few seconds.

"... depends on what you're gonna say it costs."

[howling_laugh]

"Oh, this one can be a freebie. Just for fun, you know."

Coyote crosses her legs and grins at him, tapping her boot against the chair leg.

He thinks over everything he now knows about tricksters in general and about Coyote in particular.
