Sam Linnfer and Cal Chandler are on a sofa by the fireplace, taking up less of it than you might think; they're sitting comfortably close, leaning together, with Cal slouched down to accommodate Sam's much smaller frame. (Either Cal is too tall or Sam is too short. It really depends on who you ask ( Read more... )

Sam is too small. Atton is assured of this.

Usually he'd feel a little bit awkward about intruding on a cuddly moment, but he's spent the past few weeks on a scavenger hunt for a doom squid. He's too tired to care at the moment.

Thus, Sam and Cal get an Atton draped haphazardly over their shoulders.

Atton is a mean Atton, Sam feels. A very mean, bullying Atton.

This is why he looks up at Atton and grins, reaching one arm up to ruffle his hair.

"Hey, dorkface."

Cal looks up and smiles, a bit lazily.

"Hey, Atton. You ever manage to extort that seal meat from anyone?"

"I did. Guppy found sealburgers. They were delicious." Atton says. "You were foolish for not getting it for me, Cal. Foolish."

Izzie, looking remarkably healthy for once, decides to plop herself down in the seat across from their sofa.

One of the faces is familiar to her; the other, however, not so much.

She offers them both a smile just the same.

"Hey."

"Hey, Izzie." Cal straightens up, a little, mainly out of an attempt at manners. He smiles. "You're looking good today," he says, then gives Sam a light nudge with his shoulder. "Sam, this is Izzie Stevens. Izzie, this is Sam Linnfer."

If Sam could read narrative, he would have a comment to make about Cal straightening up. As it is, the mun will have to comment on it for him.

"Hi." Sam looks up and smiles. "Pleased to meet you."

"Today's a good day," Izzie admits, for more than one reason.

"Hi, Sam," she adds. "You know, you're the second Sam I've met here. Must be a popular name."

Oh look! There is a generally flighty nymph peering at Sam and Cal. She is trying to be not so obvious about it, though, because- well.

Atton waves one hand.

He's moved so that he's sprawled out, legs dangling off the edge and partly slumped on Sam, and is half asleep.

Cracking one eye open: "Hey."

Sam is leaning against Cal and stroking Atton's hair absent-mindedly (because they would not be gay enough otherwise, clearly), but looks up to see who Atton is talking to, and smiles when he sees who it is.

"Hi, Pomona."

Cal follows everyone's example and looks over, but just nods in greeting. Because he does not know Pomona yet and it's a little weird to call someone by their name before an actual introduction situation has occurred.

X comes downstairs dressed in her usual tank top and pants, hair still damp from her post-training shower. She catches sight of Cal and a smaller person near the fireplace, and adjusts her angle of approach accordingly.

And when she's a few feet away --

"Cal."

Beat.

"You are okay?"

He could be very tired. That sometimes makes people prone to laughter. She has observed this first-hand.

His companion nets himself a quick, sideways look as well. Just in case he is also not okay.

"X! Hey." Cal's greeting smile is a shade brighter than usual - partly because being with Sam generally puts him in a good mood, but also because it's still a relief to see X intact and healthy. It might be a while before he completely gets over that.

"Yeah, I'm good, how are you? Oh, this is Sam," he adds. "Linnfer. Sam, this is X-23."

"Sam."

X tests the name, studying the person who bears it, too.

And after a moment --

"Hello."

She does not move to sit down. X is not that kind of girl.

X is studied right back, although perhaps rather more covertly.

The new girl is strange, but Cal has said she's his friend, and in any case, it's not as though Sam's ever had a problem with strange.

He smiles up at her. "Hi."

Chuck is not the joining the couple onna couch type. He IS, however, the curled up on a nearby chair type.

Inorite?

Just to look at him, you'd have never thought it of him.

He has a pillow, even. And when his attention wanders from whatever's occupied it in the fire, he gives a half-wave to Cal before he realises that Cal is not alone.

WHOOPS.

Cal is okay with this.

(Though he isn't really aware of how - couple-y he and Sam can look even when they're not making out.)

(They're just friends, really.)

"Hey, Chuck," he says. "How you doing?"

necessary_child June 6 2009, 00:47:58 UTC
Just friends. Right.

Sam looks across, when Cal speaks, and gives Chuck an easy smile. "Hi."

"I'm good."

WHICH IS WHY HE IS CLUTCHING THE PILLOW YES.

This is the way we breeeeathe by numbers, breeeeathe by numbers, breeeeathe by numbers!

"Hi," he adds to Sam. Because. He's cool like that.
