Sam Linnfer and Cal Chandler are on a sofa by the fireplace, taking up less of it than you might think; they're sitting comfortably close, leaning together, with Cal slouched down to accommodate Sam's much smaller frame. (Either Cal is too tall or Sam is too short. It really depends on who you ask ( Read more... )

Oh look! There is a generally flighty nymph peering at Sam and Cal. She is trying to be not so obvious about it, though, because- well.

Atton waves one hand.

He's moved so that he's sprawled out, legs dangling off the edge and partly slumped on Sam, and is half asleep.

Cracking one eye open: "Hey."

Sam is leaning against Cal and stroking Atton's hair absent-mindedly (because they would not be gay enough otherwise, clearly), but looks up to see who Atton is talking to, and smiles when he sees who it is.

"Hi, Pomona."

Cal follows everyone's example and looks over, but just nods in greeting. Because he does not know Pomona yet and it's a little weird to call someone by their name before an actual introduction situation has occurred.

"Hello," she says, timidly.

And then settles onto the floor because she has spotted Shreddie, and obviously the kitten is much more important than Atton, Sam, or Cal.

Sam twists a flower out of magic and sends it over, partly for Pomona and partly for Shreddie to play with.

"Are you being mean again?" he asks, gently teasing. "Pomona, this is Cal. He's a friend."

"Hi, Pomona," Cal smiles. "Nice to meet you."

Even if she is mainly preoccupied with the cat.

Cal never did understand the cat thing. He's more of a dog person.

She wrinkles her nose and retorts, primly, "I am not mean."

But the flower is appreciated! And there is a polite "Hello" for Cal.

"Are too," Sam answers, smiling. "You're mean, and that kitten is a traitorous scrap of fluff."

HOW HE COPES HE DOES NOT KNOW.

"Poor Sam," Cal says. (It sounds kind of familiar.) "Surrounded by enemies and traitors."

Just look at Cal. All leaning cozily into Sam. He could turn at any time.

. . .

No, really. Any time.

. . .

. . .

Maybe later.

"Yes," she agrees. "It is very sad."

Which is why she is currently distracting Shreddie with a piece of yarn. No! Really! It indicates her extreme woefulness at Sam's state!

Sam rather thought Cal had already turned.

Ahem.

"My life is so hard," he says sadly.

Everyone is so mean to him. It's a terrible existence.

Cal is conflicted about turning. It's still hard to accept that it's okay to turn, if it feels right.

"Yet somehow you struggle through."

Not that he and Sa have had this conversation before or anything.

"He is very persistant."

What if it feels left?

Ba-dum-chssh.

"It's a talent," Sam agrees cheerfully, playing with the spikes of the now-sleeping Atton's hair. He sends Pomona another flower, as a sign of his persistence.

"You have many talents," Cal says.

. . . then he realizes how that sounded.

. . . but they have company.

Cue silence.
