Kitten in the bar.

He's curled up in one of the booths, hazel eyes closed. Anyone that walks past would hear the purring. It's a soothing sound even if the one making the sound is nice and broken.

After getting Han's note but before heading outside, Demeter spots Ben and curls up around him giving him one of her patented hugs.

He feels her, that familiar scent on the air and when she curls around him, hugging him... He snuggles back into her that purr getting a bit louder in volume.

A few tears slip into his hair, too many children hurt here and she can't help them and it hurts.

Also the pain of fields that can't feed enough and get drowned by nature being cruel.

The purring stops and he frowns, nuzzling her a bit. "What's wrong?" Though a part of him isn't sure if it's okay to ask. Even if she has become like a mother to him. Something back in his own world, he doesn't have.

Never will have. He's just a broken soldier that Manticore wants to fix and when they can't fix him will want to tear him apart.

"Good Lord, is that purring?" Tom mutters as he passes by. Maybe he mutters a little too loudly. Mal's been buying the rounds tonight.

That makes the hair on the back of his neck stiffen a bit and he gives a low growl. He doesn't know who the speaker is, just knows it didn't feel right. Or maybe he just doesn't like the way the man said that.

"Bloody hell, and growling, too. Really, some people."

"Shouldn't talk loud enough for them to hear you."

It's quiet, a purr laced in the voice.
